SUGGESTS Donavan for Jarren Duran. I say no way Boston does this.

Jarren Duran is an interesting player in that he had the physical tools and has shown himself capable of being successful in the Bigs, but if the Red Sox are mulling this, then I worry about Duran’s current state of mind and his battles with depression.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m rooting for the guy and would love to have him, however, his battle with severe depression lead to a suicide attempt a few years back; which involved a rifle, a room, and actually pulling the trigger!

Now, StL might be a better place for the kid than Boston. However, this is almost Khalil Greene red flag levels, especially since I don’t actually know what the Red Sox would want in return

Boston might want to trade Duran, but they would want more in return. The problem is, I don’t think the Cardinals make this deal.
I suggested that they go after Duran months ago, and not for Donovan, but realized that the Cardinals aren’t trying to win that hard! Not yet anyway. The Cardinals are looking for a couple of prospects for Donovan, not established MLB guys!

Makes no sense

Both are going into their age 29 season (Donny 4 Mos younger)........ARB eligible.........free agents 2028 Donny /2029 Duran

2024/2025

Donny
24 HR
123 RBI
.282 .347 .419 .766
116 OPS+

Duran
37 HR
159 RBI
.271 .337 .468 .805
124 OPS+

Good player but you don't want to deal Donny for a 29 yr old who's only a slightly better hitter.

Oops don't need a depression case. We had one of those at SS, Khalil Greene. Didn't work out. Cost us Luke Gregerson who pitched good for the Padres and then came back to screw us a 2nd time

The trade won't happen, but it won't have anything to do with Duran's mental well-being. There are probably a ton of dudes in this league dealing with the same thing...they just haven't gone public with it

Duran is a talent, but you don't want a Khalil Greene 2.0

Change of scenery would be good for him

I’m curious why the move from a playoff contender to the future floor mat of the NLC would have a positive impact on someone prone to depression.

1.) Pressure from Media
2.) Pressure from Fans
3.) Competition in AL West vs NL Central
