I'm also interested in the situation with Trent Burns. With his height and his high ranking from HS, he should by rights be an important member of this team, and inside, not shooting 3's. But the time keeps passing and the questions get louder; is he actually healthy, and can he ever actually be a factor in SEC ball for the Tigers?
After losing to all three major conference teams they have played, by 20 to Kansas and that pitiful 43 point no-show against Illinois, Mizzou needs to show some teeth pretty quickly if they expect to hold fan interest.

Thus far Gates has not been able to develop a big man, let alone create a condition for a big man to thrive. The way he handled Diarra, and we all know the story, is a really extreme example of it. I thought a couple guys this year could help transform the team and create more presence down low, but so far it has been same old . . .California Cardinal Fan wrote: ↑30 Dec 2025 12:18 pm I'm also interested in the situation with Trent Burns. All I gotta say, and sounding like a broken record, is let’s see what next year’s freshman can bring, because they may very well have the talent to cancel out the coaching )along with hope we get improvement from the assistants).

Re: Stone and Pierce
I don't think Gates knows how to develop and use big men. And I'm not sure he even concerns himself about it. He seems to obsessed with the idea of playing five 3 pt. shooters.
Re: Stone and Pierce
Big men have to play in a system where things like defense, boxing out and rebounding are important. A. Gates has NO system of any kind and B. Defense, boxing out and rebounding are not in Gates’ vision of basketball.Mizzoufan443 wrote: ↑30 Dec 2025 16:31 pmThus far Gates has not been able to develop a big man, let alone create a condition for a big man to thrive. That stupid and constant help defense to prevent tough twos while allowing wide open threes is a disaster. What is the big deal about forcing opponents to shoot tough twos?Red7 wrote: ↑01 Jan 2026 08:19 amBig men have to play in a system where things like defense, boxing out and rebounding are important.
