Christmas 1967
Every year at this time I fondly remember who scored the only goal in the 1 - 0 victory over the North Stars on Christmas Day 1967..
And the scorer, It could not have been more appropriate.
NOEL Picard!!!!!

Great memory mon amis! Now go but a Chinook or Winnebago.
Re: Christmas 1967
I remember it. It was a great story, particularly because his parents had named him Noel as he was born on Christmas Day!
Thanks for the memories. Merry Christmas.
Thanks for the memories. Merry Christmas.
Re: Christmas 1967
My favorite Noel story is from listening to Dan Kelley talk about preparing to interview some tough guy enforcer during an intermission. Noel laughed and said, "Don't worry Danny boy, I will be right here with you."

Re: Christmas 1967
Bob Plager mentioned this game in his book. If I remember correctly, Noel just had a baby, so he filled some baby bottles with whiskey to take on the flight out, and got hammered. I really miss seeing Bobby around…

Re: Christmas 1967
Bobby told the awfullest tales on poor Noel, just as you might expect a very bad-azzed good hockey pal and teammate from Ontario would tell.
He related that Picard’s English was improving. He overheard him at the hardware store buying lumber. Noel announced that he needed some “four by twices”. When asked which length, he answered steadily,”Oak!”.

You got it brother. This came to mind too as soon as I read Plagers4Evers post. My God there are so many good time stories about all those Blues players back then. I can remember bits and pieces of a lot of those guys owning farms back then "and" playing hockey when they weren't farming. There was one that had something to do with one of the players not being able to make some sort of event because he had to paint his barn. I don't remember the whole thing. But yes, lots of hilarious memories.

Glen Hall every year, "I'll get to training camp as soon as I finish painting my Barn (in Alberta)."Blues Dave wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 13:59 pmHarry York 37 wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 15:55 pm Bobby told the awfullest tales on poor Noel, just as you might expect a very bad-azzed good hockey pal and teammate from Ontario would tell.

Hall hated camp so he used that excuse every year. Barn probably never got painted.Old_Goat wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 14:55 pmGlen Hall every year, "I'll get to training camp as soon as I finish painting my Barn (in Alberta)."Blues Dave wrote: ↑26 Dec 2025 13:59 pmHarry York 37 wrote: ↑25 Dec 2025 15:55 pm Bobby told the awfullest tales on poor Noel, just as you might expect a very bad-azzed good hockey pal and teammate from Ontario would tell.

He was a wonderful person.......we used to go into his bar in Cuba and he'd shake our hands and light up like a Christmas tree.
His hands were just huge.
Re: Christmas 1967
I remember listening to Noel on KMOX, “We got a xcore on the outta town scoreboard: New York tree, New York too.”
