Berube
Is he done in Toronto? They are dead last in their division and second to last in the wildcard chase?
Re: Berube
I never thought that was a good fit. They don’t have the players to match up with the way he likes to play.
Re: Berube
That seems to be the growing consensus. We'll see if it happens.
Chief responding to an in-game question about what has been the factor for the Blues during the SCF: "Work Ethic and Simplicity"
His general coaching philosophy is to work hard, play hard, and be a team player. Work as a unit to establish the forecheck and keep the puck at the other end of the ice. Protect the net and goalie, playing team D with several shut down units. Don't leave anyone out to dry. Have some gumption.
He's not asking for much, just honest hockey. The modern player is disillusioned by their perceived abilities vs actual effectiveness. It must be the SC winning coach's fault we're in last place.

Re: Berube
I think DeBoer could get a short-term bump out of the team, but I think the Leafs are just hopelessly flawed.
The Berube experience in Toronto just makes tho very rare situation like Jon Cooper in Tampa all the more amazing. He is obviously a great coach, but his longevity with one team in impressive.

There seem to be a lot of coach killers on the Maple Leafs.zamadoo wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:03 am That seems to be the growing consensus. We'll see if it happens.

Re: Berube
It’s coming …soon. I read last night that it will likely be Derek Lalonde at least for the rest of the year which would be the most Toronto Maple Leafs thing ever. Deboer makes the most sense to me though.

Re: Berube
I feel bad for Berube, as this team was set up from failure when Shanny was running the team. The problem with the leafs there is no leadership and they look like they do not like playing with each other.

Re: Berube
Yeah, I never really thought this was a good fit for Chief at all. He needs a steady goaler and a heavy forecheck for his system to work and Toronto has neither of those.Frank Underwood wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:09 am I think DeBoer could get a short-term bump out of the team, but I think the Leafs are just hopelessly flawed.

It's only been 117 games though. This is why Toronto doesn't win, they go through coaches like this. Just stupid.

Paul Maurice is a straight shooter too. Even he would have a challenge with those spoiled & pampered pets.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:10 amYeah, I never really thought this was a good fit for Chief at all. I think it's time for the league to have some fun. If Toronto quits on Berube, then they need to hire John Tortorella.
Re: Berube
Maybe that's what you get when you get top 5 players! Prima donnas.

Re: Berube
If they quit on Berube then yeah the most logical next choice is Deboer, but after that I don't know anyone who could get that group to play winning hockeyOld_Goat wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:16 amPaul Maurice is a straight shooter too. This is all on Matthew’s and Nylander. I’d take Morgan Rielly here, he would shore up our #2 LD issue.
