"Jonatan Berggren will get an opportunity to play on the first line with Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich as the St. Louis Blues begin a two-game road trip in Florida before the holiday break.

Berggren scored his first goal as a Blue on Thursday night against the New York Rangers, and has shown an ability to make plays in two appearances with the Blues since being claimed off waivers last Tuesday.

"[Thomas, Buchnevich and Berggren] see the game commonly in the offensive zone and off the rush. There's no question Berggren has really good hockey sense," Blues Head Coach Jim Montgomery said of the new line combination. "(Alexey Toropchenko) did a really good job last game (with Thomas and Buchnevich). He got them in on the forecheck because of his speed through the neutral zone, he got pucks in, he got them o-zone time. And he's so responsible defensively they didn't have to spend as much time in the D-zone... Berggren has the ability to create more offense. It might be the first two and a half periods with Berggren (on that line), but you might see (Toropchenko) on that line the last 10 minutes, just depending on the score."

"When he signed Montgomery to a five-year contract, Armstrong made no qualms about this coach not going anywhere. The on-ice coaching staff also includes Steve Ott (associate), Claude Julien, Mike Weber and Dave Alexander (goalies).

And despite the start to this season in which the Blues are dead-last in goals per game (2.44), most goals allowed (125) and largest goal differential (minus-37), Armstrong feels like this hasn’t been on the coaches for a change.

“Well, A) their work ethic is excellent,” Armstrong said. “They’re pushing, they’re prodding, but they’re like everybody, a little bit confused on why we can’t snap out of this."

Hard to blame Monty for the entire team's current state. I'd like to see him try some more out-of-the-box thinking regarding their offensive approach and DEFINITELY a different starting 3 in OT, but it's not like his personality or presence is the reason they're doing the same thing during this part of the season they did with the last 2 coaches.

They signed Monty as a player after college, he was an assistant coach for 2 seasons, and they did great under him last season. I find it unlikely there's some new, unforeseen thing Monty's doing that the team just can't perform under him.
