The Mariners are in conversations with free agent catcher Andrew Knizner on a deal, reports Chris Cotillo of MassLive. If they reach agreement on a big league contract, he’d be in line to back up Cal Raleigh.

That would be a good team for him. He is not the worst back-up catcher in the world, but certainly not starter-quality. I wish him luck as he always seemed like a decent guy.

That would be a good team for him. He is not the worst back-up catcher in the world, but certainly not starter-quality. I wish him luck as he always seemed like a decent guy.

Currently sitting at five years service time at age 30. Has an outside shot at reaching the 10 year mark, which qualifies him for a full pension. Just has to remain a viable MLB backup catcher for five more years. Backing up a guy like Raleigh should help his longevity, as he won’t be expected to start often behind the plate.
