Cardinals got extremely lucky in the 24 and 25 draft lottery

Post by billybaseball »

I know it's sucks that we dropped this year. But Dropping in 24 was actually a blessing in disguise. Dropping out of the top 6 allowed us to have a lottery pick in 25. I believe we would have taken Wetherholt at #1 had we won the pick and still got him at 7. That allowed us to have a lotto pick in 25 and we moved up into the top 5 in a super weak draft. And we may have got the top pitcher in the draft too. Keeping our qualification for a lotto pick in 27 is very important. The 26 draft looks extremely deep and they 27 draft is already shaping up to be top heavy.

Good analysis, Billy ! Bet a few teams see now that passing on JJ due to his hamstring backfired on them .
