Ohtani/Judge v late ‘90’s early ‘00s

Post by Goldfan »

Obvious that Ohtani and Judge are the premiere hitters in MLB currently. They seem a class unto themselves. Curious the opinion on how they would compare dropping them in the league 25 yrs ago? MLB seemed to be much deeper offensively then. Would they merely hang with Bonds, Pujols, Sosa, Arod, Griffey….or would they be a level above them??
Which leads to the main topic….is MLB talent so depleted in ‘26 that we only have 2 elite hitters where back then it was a much deeper bench?
Given the degree of separation between Ohtani/Judge to most of league…..you could only argue that they would significantly eclipse the stars listed above back then OR acknowledge that MLB lacks elite depth now.
Neither Seem affected by the “much superior pitching” of today exhibited by high avg and Power

You mean Gorman, Noot and Burly aren't equal to Judge and Ohtani. I'd be more curious as to what those two would have done in the 60s and 70s. I think both would have done fine in any era but maybe not with the huge numbers we've seen from them.

Put judge and ohtani back in the day and hop them up on steroids like McGwire and bonds and Sosa and look out judge would would have probably hit 80
