Eli did what he HAD TO DO.

have lost a lot of respect for Eli because he didn't fire the incompetent Moore 4 games ago but he did what was necessary to elevate MU FB. Didn't have to say anything but my family is happy in Como and he was happy with the support of the BOC and powers that be. Media carried his water to make him appear desireable tho he wasn't really as popular a candidate as they claimed. Nerdy looking guys who can't beat anyone with Big Brand or ratings are not appealing to other fan bases who are used to winning.

But what he needed desperately is much bigger NIL and Assistants budget to be competitive. You have to give it to him that he has been a solid if not great recruiter and knows talent especially in NIL and got the best bang for his buck there. You had teams like LSU, OSU, MI, OR, Bama, GA, Aggies and Tejas plus others who were throwing around much bigger dollars and getting better more expensive talent. You want to beat the best? Better have the top talent and with this new contract he should be even more effective.

Plus should be able to afford top notch assistants instead of losing them to better contracts. His bargain basement hiring of a unproven G5 OC like Kirby Moore has to be replaced and with a much better PROVEN OC and ST coach another area that has been blah for all of his 6 years here.

Now tiger fans get to enjoy the circus down at Oxford till after the Egg Bowl when Lane will announce whether he will stay or go. reportedly LSU is prepared to offer the most outrageous contract in CFB and FL is truly desperate for a winning proven HC after 3 simply disasterous hires. IMO he will sign a crazy contract at Oxford and say thanks for all the attention as it's what he really craves. But it is Lane and he does some strange stuff so stay tuned. It is entertaining if your not a Ole Miss fan and would LOVE it if the pretentious entitled fans of LSU and FL are disappointed.
