The Devils (14-7-1) host the St. Louis Blues at Prudential Center on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; FDSNMW, MSGSN2) and Hughes will again be counted on in a big way. Kovacevic hasn't played a game this season after undergoing knee surgery in June, and Pesce (hand) has missed the past 13 games.

Since Nov. 7, Hughes has averaged 24:58 in ice time, which ranks eighth in the League among all defensemen over that span.

In that span (seven games), he has six points (one goal, five assists), nearly half his points (13, one goal, 12 assists) this season. He had an NHL career-high seven shots on goal in a 4-3 overtime win at the Chicago Blackhawks on Nov. 12 and scored his first goal of the season in a 3-2 shootout win at the Washington Capitals three days later.

2. As frustrating as they can be they will never reach the depths of the early expansion Thrashers.

here's hoping to see more than two consecutive o zone passes connect by the Blues and not on the perimeter either.

here's hoping they don't get completely hemmed in their own zone unable to clear for minutes at a time

it's that they look so terrible most of the game. they finally break free for a chance and the goalie saves it or they shoot it wide. it was shocking when Schenn actually scored on one of these chances against the Islanders. (The Isles announcers said it was the first time all season in any Islander game that any team had scored in the first minute of any period btw)

At the game tonight…thought I’d get an up close look at what’s good and bad about our game…in person! 😉 Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Schenn likes C. Been wondering when we'd see Joseph back in.

Only caught moments of a 101ESPN postgame discussion yesterday and not sure who the analyst was but think it was McKenna and he essentially placed the loss on the obvious lack of offense from the entire team but also on Mailloux.

Said you cannot treat the NHL like any other level and think you can get away with taking dangerous risks that get you out of position unless they're going to pay off. Obviously, NOT ONE of those risks has turned into a goal yet so for his sake, let's hope he can figure something out because 2 more mistakes last game resulted in 2 more goals against.

Perhaps your in-person perspective can decipher if this kid has ANY chance of being a positive influence this season.

Buch-Thomas-Kyrou starts the game with Broberg and Parayko. Dangerous chance, can't seem to get it out of our zone.

Suter-Schenn-Snuggerud also hemmed in our own zone.

Dvorsky with Holloway and Neighbours take an offensive draw.

He winds and fires. 1-0 on a Fowler blast from the top of the circle.

Thomas alertly intercepts the pass to create an offensive chance and then passes to a covered man and the chance immediately ends. That is pretty much his whole season
