Gray receives $1M to waive no trade clause

Post by ramfandan »

According to Steve Pillips on MLB Network The Leadoff Spot this morning .

Gray was originally scheduled to earn $35 M in 2026 and held a $5 buyout at end of year if team option was declined

Now Boston reworked that .. Sonny will earn $31M in 2026 with a $10M buyout at end of year if a mutual option id declined.

So instead of $40 M guaranteed under the orginal deal, Sonny now is guaranteed $41M for this year and Steve Phillips said so in effect he received $1M additional dollars for waiving his no trade clause to go to Boston.
Bottom line.. Agents can use no trade clause to add $$ if and when a player agrees to wavie it.

Must be nice if you are Sonny Gray to tell your wife ..' Hey,hon, my agent just told me they have worked uut a deal for Boston Red Sox and I will make an extra $1M for next season. '
Sonny's wife 'Thanks for telling me . Now I can buy a LOT more for Christmas shopping on Black Friday !'
Sonny : 'Why did I open my big mouth !!
