OT is terrible…always has been since the new rules. It’s not hockey, it’s a gimmick as is the shootout. They aren’t gonna change the format though but they need to put a rule in place that if you have the puck in the offensive zone and then skate out of the zone…automatic penalty shot for the other team. They need to stop that circling back to center ice [nonsense]

5-5 is unrealistic for obvious reasons. 4-4 would seem to lead to more shootouts.

So, I'm fine with 3-3 except there needs to be a rule that once a team enters the offensive zone if they skate the puck back or pass the puck back to a teammate across the center red line it results in a stoppage of play and faceoff at center ice. They can regroup or recover from a failed zone entry but they only get half the neutral zone to work with once they cross the red line moving forward.

I really enjoy the 3 v 3, but I agree with Tim (PierreMcGuire) in that it's a fan friendly gimmick. If they keep it, it needs some tweaks. If it's 4 v 4, it will take longer to decide to game.

Couldn't agree more. I loathe OT. I had no idea 3 on 3 NHL could be so freaking boring. I can't stand it.

Correct answer. I wonder what the winning percentage is for the team that wins the opening faceoff. I say the same thing about soccer when they go all the way down the field and then proceed to pass it all the way back to their goalie. Unwatchable.

I hate 3v3 as well and wish they would just go back 4v4. If they are staying with 3v3, they simply need to not switch ends in the OT. The circling back to center ice only works because they make it the long change for the defending side. It's monumentally stupid that they made it 3v3 and the long change.

Might has well put a shot clock on during the 3x3 from time of possession, and if you fail to get a shot on net or score then is is a turnover (like box LAX). Then like pick-up hockey, the next possession starts from the goalie. At least Binner could then potentially skate with the puck to the red line as the "4th" man. That would limit the circle backs.

Well they did the same thing with 3v3 after a few years of it with the normal change. Then they decided that putting the long change in would make it harder and cause players to get more tired.

It worked for a little while, since then has devolved into this mess. A team shouldn't be able to maintain puck possession for 3 minutes just because they won a faceoff and can skate around the ice for minutes and not fumble the puck or take a shot.

I doubt they leave the 3/3 format though.
