From smoke and mirrors to FO clarity

Post by imetsatchelpaige »

I just watched Bloom's press conference and came away impressed. If you have not done so, I suggest watching.
Clear on intent, focused, smart, strategic. Centered.
The anti-Mo.
I find myself in the unusual position of feeling optimistic!

Remember last off-season when we made exactly 0 moves? It's incredible to imagine... anyways, this year is sure to be different. Glad to see a definitive direction being declared for a change.

This clarity and plain-speak is how good organizations are run. Consider the Kansas City Chiefs. Who has the power position? Who is the face of the organization? Clark Hunt, the owner? Brett Veatch, the GM? Andy Reid, the coach? Patrick Mahomes, the star QB? When they speak, doesn't it seem like everyone has a seat at the table? Do you ever hear them off-point, or contradicting one another? Do you ever feel like any of them are making a power play?

What the Cardinals are doing now shows signs of this type of dynamic. I hope that is true, and I hope it continues. The veteran players are communicated with and are willing to waive their no trade clauses. You get the feeling they are on the same page. The owner seems to accept, and is willing to absorb money to get better prospects. The front office doesn't seem like they are trying to have a stranglehold on information and messaging. They bring in smart people and listen to them- they also let them speak. These are good developments for Cardinals fans.

It is a hurricane of fresh air.
And a good harbinger for the future.

The Chiefs may be the best run team in pro sports.

John Mozeliak was not operating with smoke and mirrors. That would suggest he at least had a plan to use deception when dealing with other teams.

According to Bernie, many teams had stopped trying to deal with Mozeliak. They felt he had no strategy and was always delusional in asking price. That screams incompetence. His only plan was to do whatever was easy. Johnny numb nuts was a total putz.

Im sure he rubbed a lot of front office execs the wrong way. That "smartest guy in the room" act probably didn't win any friends.

I would argue the last 10 years! But I know what you are saying about Bloom already being here.

Sure, but this last year keeping a lame duck to do nothing was a special kind of stupid…..even for that group
