Think I could put up with Hall of Fame Nolan Arenado for 1 more year
Kinda brings to light if not Arenado who's on 3rd next year
Cards don't have to hold a Giveaway!

Two of the above three entries are out of his control- solid package. It may be solid but performance is the key. Anything less the Donovan is a loss.ramfandan wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 06:37 am 1. Re-sign Miles Mikolas

Second, trading Nado. Don’t you think if possible he’d be gone.

They may well sign a SP to something like a 1 yr./$6 million contract, but it probably should not be Mikolas. Just somebody with a different name, even if they are no better, would probably sit better with fans.

Can’t hold him responsible for Arenado. Who knows if anyone wants him and if they do at what cost.ramfandan wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 06:37 am 1. Re-sign Miles Mikolas

One more year of Mikolas not ideal but I still say we need arms and a veteran arm could help. Maybe?
Not getting MLB ready players for Donovan would be inexcusable.

Disagree with 3. I’d replace with holding onto Marmol.ramfandan wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 06:37 am 1. Re-sign Miles Mikolas

The fans that come to games are fine with watching Nado when he’s healthy. Unless there’s a chance at replacing him with someone better and that’s not happening now.

He doesn’t Have to trade Donovan is the return isn’t there. Go for a sure thing or keep the sure thing you’ve got.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 07:30 amTwo of the above three entries are out of his control- solid package. Number 2 will happen no matter what. Some posters greatly inflate the value of cardinal players so they will be upset no matter what the return isramfandan wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 06:37 am 1. Re-sign Miles Mikolas

True, he does not 'have to ' trade Donovan. What he does have to decide regarding Donovan is this ? A. With two years remaining and age 30 when he reaches free agency , how prudent is it to sign him to a long term deal that would take Donovan well into his 30's (a players declining years ) B. If he isnt here for the long term, am I (Bloom) better to get a package now , or wait one year and see what he could bring then , OR keep him for two years and get a compensation draft pick when I put the QO on him .Carp4Cy wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 09:59 amHe doesn’t Have to trade Donovan is the return isn’t there. Those are some of the considerations Bloom is dealing with .

Yes, some will be upset yet the return cannot truly be rated as excellent, very good, good, mediocre or bad in a couple days after the trade . Most likely at least one of the players obtained in the deal may be a fairly high prospect with a high ceiling . A 19 or 20 year old high ceiling kid may become outstanding , average, or poor . We won't know for a couple years .Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 10:39 amNumber 2 will happen no matter what. Sometimes initial evaluations by fanbase can be off. Ex. Brewers traded relief ace Devin WIlliams to the Yankees for P Nester Cortez, minor leaguer Caleb Durbin, and cash. Brewer fans were not doing cartwheels over the return .
Then a year later things flipped as minor leaguer Durbin caught on fire playing a lot and becoming the 3rd place Rookie of the Year in the N.L.
He was known for his speed , aggressiveness, and good contact but no fans anticipated his skyrocketing play . He quickly became a fan favorite.
Interesting how the trade was ho hum initially and now Brewer fans are excited by the result of the deal for Williams.

Bloom is responsible for all the above and more. Although he inherited Mo Rans mess, it is his team.
1. Resigning Mikolas. Unless MLB dictates the Cards need a minimally skilled SP who played in Asia no rationale for giving him $1. Mikolas, via lack of performance and stupid comments regarding paying fans, has zip value in STL.
2. "Solid prospect". Subjective term. While the prospect received may not be Musial, Gibbie, Brock, etc who is to say they are not "solid". Blooms definition of "solid" is what is important.
3. NA. His responsibility is to make the best deal for the Cards with the NA contract he inherited. Takes two to tango, so unless he passes on Judge or Ohtani for NA holding him accountable is fantasy. IF faced with Gorman at 3B, I hope NA is on the Cardinals opening day 2026.
Not ditching Marmot and Blake at mid season would be yet, another, situation where FO and ownership has not taken steps required to place MLB competent personnel in key position. Doubt the fan base would accept.

I think you will be disappointed in the Donovan trade then. My expectation is that he gets 2 prospects for Donovan that will be ML ready by 2027 and both prospects would be in our top 5 or 6 prospects immediately after the trade. To me that would be a good return. They get an OF rated similarly to Josh Baez and a pitcher rated higher than Quinn Mathews. That should be the expectation.Jatalk wrote: ↑22 Nov 2025 08:32 amCan’t hold him responsible for Arenado. When they come into spring training in 2027, earning a rotation spot should be hard. Doyle, acquired SP Donny trade, Liberatore, McGreevy, Mathews, Hjerpe, Roby and Henderson. That is 8 guys for 5 spots. I am sure injuries will reduce the field. But, others could emerge.
