Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
In his Sunday Post article , Derrick Goold said that Bloom and his 3 asst. GM's met with both agents and Gm's . When meeting with the various GM's , the 4 of them floated that they are open to 'listening to offers' and specifically mentioned 3 players .. Donovan, Nootbaar, and Romero .
What all 3 have in common is that they have 2 years remaining prior to free agency so open to moving them this winter.
Of course , Arenado and Gray both have NTC provisions and are in a separate category as they must have OK to trade those two unlike the 3 names floated above.

Re: Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
The bummer is that over the years I’ve really grown to like all three of those players. Wish Noot had a little more health and consistency. He’s a fun personality.
Re: Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
So it sounds like they're not nearly at the point of moving on from Walker/Gorman, rather giving Bloom a fair chance to evaluate them in his first season truly overseeing the big league club. Good plan imo because they are at their lowest value and you never know what can happen. Maybe Walker will have his Jo Adell breakout season.
Re: Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
These are obvious names. I’m surprised that aren’t listening on Burlerson. He will likely outperform his cost the next two years and with arb increases will likely be less valuable in 2028 his last year. Unless they plan on extending him they need to maximize his value now since they are not expecting to contend the next two years.
Re: Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
Gutsy or wishful thinking on trying to move a broken Noot.
Romero - hope they get positive return not expecting anything above a teams 15 rated prospect - unless in a package deal.
Donovan - Toe, groin, and hernia surgery in 2025. Although I hope he stays a Cardinal the injury history of 25 along with elbow surgery in 23 might be indicators time is prime the best return.
Gorman would be more along the lines of "Free for taking - just take him".

I'm sure they would listen, but I'm surprised that at least one of the catchers wasn't being floated.

Agree! Neither have much current value. Both will need to earn their playing time. I can see why the Cards would entertain possiible trades for the Donovan, especially Nootbar and Romero. Also,I would think the Cards are open to trade Contreras.C-Unit wrote: ↑16 Nov 2025 13:49 pm So it sounds like they're not nearly at the point of moving on from Walker/Gorman, rather giving Bloom a fair chance to evaluate them in his first season truly overseeing the big league club. Player A: 25 years old (1,581 plate appearances). Career .419 SLG &.719 OPS. Total 3.5 career WAR.
Player B: 27 years old (1,541 plate appearances. Career .422 SLG & .742 OPS. Total 2.3 career WAR.
Player A Gorman and Player B Burleson. One trended upwards the last couple years, and the other downwards. Just food for thought.

Just my wild guess , but with the number of catchers they have in their system , their best strategy may be NOT to float any name.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑16 Nov 2025 14:04 pm I'm sure they would listen, but I'm surprised that at least one of the catchers wasn't being floated.
Doing so may send a signal to the other teams .. Oh , so the Cardinals floated Catcher X so guess they have decided they don't want him long term so maybe we should scratch him off our list . So glad they did as that was one we were most interested in and now it appears they may be 'eager' to uload him.
Just a hypothetical but I would just 'listen to offers' on any catchers . The other teams know we have depth there so Bloom can get a handle who the other teams covet.. See how the oppostion teams rank our catchers .

Gorman has almost trended to OUT of League numbers
Re: Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
Gorman - Supposed power bat
SLG & OPS trending down last 2 seasons
Career SO %: 38%
Above 50 RBi - 1 (2023)
Above 20 HR in Season - 1 (2023)
Does not include defense inadequacies. Past time to move on.

PS FYI In case anyone was wondering who the 3 Asst GM's are for the Cardinals ,
they are :
Assistant GM, Major League Operations & International Scouting Moisés Rodríguez
Assistant General Manager & Director of Scouting Randy Flores
Assistant General Manager, Player Development & Performance Rob Cerfolio

Re: Goold :Cards floated 3 players at the GM meetings
So ignoring the NTC guys does this mean:
Are these the only guys they want trade?
They won’t listen on other players?
Are these three the most valuable trade chips that will bring the most value?
This is not to say they won’t but I was hoping they would present more of an open book for trade possibilities.

It's also interesting to me that they haven't thrown in the towel on trading Nootbaar. I'm sure his health update recently was done just to try to maintain interest any other team may have had. Appreciate the effort.
