Explain How you became a Blues Fan and 1 Thing you Like about This years Team
This forum is a really fun place to talk about Blues hockey and engage with its fans. Thought it would be cool during a little bit of a down part of the season where there are struggles to get a thread going to collect some of the good stuff past and present that is a story of your-alls fandom. I'll start.
Growing up the pops got work tickets all the time. For some reason Blues hockey was the easiest to get so the guys would go to the game. Sat somewhat near the corner of the towel guy and behind 2 super fans that were stans of MacTavish for the sole purpose that he was the last Blues player wearing no helmet. I can still vaguely picture their mullets and those old school paper beer cups. Anyways, the whole experience was fun for me. hanging with the guys as a kid on a school night, taking the metrolink and then hearing the post game with the Blues theme.
Current year, my favorite thing about this team is their seemingly comradery. They seem to genuinely like each other in the locker room and there's a great mix of old and youth to be excited for. I view this season very much the same as last year. Hoping for playoffs, but moreso than anything, hoping for growth. Hope to either head to nashville to catch a game or over the holidays. I might actually be around that road Dallas Friday game too.

My dad caught the Blues bug during the first season and I started really going to games and becoming consumed with the game during the 1973-74 season. Our seats were in section 214 , first elevated row, on the blue line We move up up the yellow loge seats during the mid 80s. Even though the Blues went through a bad stretch when I was a kid we got to see some fun hockey. My mom hardly missed a game during the first 5 or 6 years and once I started playing she maybe went to 2 or 3 games. My dad gave up his tickets when my sister and I went away to college. I was able to partly pay him back when I worked for the Blues in the early 90s and I had 2 season tickets that I couldn’t use. I let him pick all the games he wanted before I split up the rest among my friends
This year I’m most excited about the young talent up here and in the pipeline

I literally had a radio in my bedroom as a kid when I was probably five years old. I listened to Dan Kelly covering the games as I fell asleep.
Got to know everything about the team, by just listening to games.
Once year we would get tickets from a neighbor of ours who worked for the Blues ticket office. My first game was the Rangers Blues 1975.
This game:

Think I’ll tell you about this team is the real leader is Thomas. Just watching the first 10 games this season when he was out, they were completely rudderless.
Within three minutes of him being on the ice Monday night, you knew the leader was back.

I was a young kid and had friends that played youth ice hockey and got me interested… my parents couldn’t afford hockey kinda an expensive sport… so back then the blues were good and on tv so I watched and became hooked from then not sure what age I was but since I was a youngster….this years team I am loving the young guys coming up and playing minutes and hopefully a long winning streak

My dad watched the games. I was in the room with my older brother. He would say Matthew--sit down and watch. It was Brian Suter-Federko Gilmour Mullen, Ramage.
Then when Brett Hull arrived--I was really hooked. The rest is history. Born in mid 70's--started watching in mid 80's. Really was hooked in 1988. Hullies first full year in the Lou.

Now
Im really loving Robert Thomas. The guy is a star, He's in his prime. Fun to watch.
Also think Jimmy Snuggerud and Jake Neighbours will score a lot of goals for us.

My dad and older brother really caught the bug when Brett Hull became the Golden Brett and 10 year old me came along for the ride. We owe our fandom to #16.
My favorite thing about this team is the future. While I still expect this team to be sniffing around the playoffs when all is said and done, the most exciting thing is thinking about where we could be in 2, 3, 4 years with Snuggy, Dvo, LM, Neigbours, Stenberg, Lindstein, etc. Future is very bright.

I became a hockey fan and a Blues fan after going to my first game in '67. It was instant. I had been to a few Braves games but nothing like it was for those early Blues games at the barn. The barn itself was a wonder. Fans were dressed to kill, fans sang the Blues (Saints) song when the players came out.......it was truly incredible how lit up this place was back then. And that's just atmosphere.
My memory says the game was near crude. The players were closer to the fans, you could here their chatter, they seemed bigger, uglier, meaner and really physical. Goalies were like crazy people. It was amazing to see these guys with that image then perform on skates and transform themselves with.... I guess the word is grace. Totally cool. I actually had to learn to watch the puck, not just the players.
Also, those days were made special with Dan Kelly and Gus too. Radio was a lifeline back then. That's for those who ask about the importance of broadcasters.
Anyway, to this day I don't know how any one could not love this game. It's beyond me.

Well said dhsux. My story is very similar. My dad took me to opening night in 67. One of my best memories.dhsux wrote: ↑05 Nov 2025 17:10 pm I became a hockey fan and a Blues fan after going to my first game in '67. It was instant. You old guys are pretty old to be lying (dhsux) and trolling (Aesa) on the Blues Talk forum.
Is that how you wish to spend your twilight years?
