Dodgers now two less WS championships than Cards
Tied with Red Sox and Oakland Athletics. Irks me no end. I only wish that the DeWitts felt that way also.

I was just about to post this. How soon until the Dodgers (or Red Sox, not Athletics) pass the Cardinals?Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 12:32 pm Tied with Red Sox and Oakland Athletics. Irks me no end. I only wish that the DeWitts felt that way also.

Re: Dodgers now two less WS championships than Cards
If the owners can't find someway to a salary cap or super penalties for going past the penalty level, the Cards have seen their last WS Championship. The big money teams can stack a team of all stars and replaced injured players without worrying about cost. The Cards can carry a couple of stars, but the FA market is out of control.
The average ML player hits .44 with 12-15 HR and 60 to 85 Rbi's. The Cards have a team full of those guys and that buys a .500 team. Just making the playoffs is not near enough and the Brewers just proved that winning a poor division is not the answer.
You can bet the Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Blue Jays and potentially the Cubs, Padres, Braves and Astros will be doing their best to buy the best. Fans will go crazy if the STL signs Scherzer to a one year deal, but those guys are thinking of the Scherzer of 5 years ago.
The only way we go to a WS is to develop 3 to 5 young guys at once and, even then, you'll have a 3 year window before the sharks eat your stars.

Re: Dodgers now two less WS championships than Cards
The Dodgers are the team which won the weak division title, not the Brewers.
The NL Central finished 32 games over .500.
The NL West finished 36 games under .500.
The Dodgers record was:
11-2 vs COL
9-4 vs SDP
9-4 vs SFG
7-6 vs ARI
57-53 vs everyone else
The Padres record was:
10-3 vs COL
10-3 vs SFG
8-5 vs ARI
4-9 vs LAD
58-52 vs everyone else
However, the Dodgers pitching got hot (and healthy) in October... by this I mean about 4 pitchers got hot.
The Dodgers were aided by the fact that you only need about 9 pitchers in the postseason and they won all of their close games.
Playoff stats for Dodger pitchers.
ERA IP Pitchers
1.45 37.1 Yamamoto
3.18 34.0 Snell
1.69 21.1 Glasnow
4.43 20.1 Ohtani
0.84 10.2 Sasaki
5.23 41.1 everyone else on the Dodgers staff (includes several unexpected good outings in their 18 inning win).
They were outscored by the Phillies 15-13 but won that series 3-1.
They were outscored by the Blue Jays 34-26 but won that series 4-3.
Nevertheless, they are the reigning champions again. They made the playoffs (as they ALWAYS do) and squeaked out some wins and won it all.
The Cards on the other hand have sat out the playoffs in six of the past 10 years and barely squeaked in 2020 when 8 of 15 NL teams made the playoffs. So really they only had a playoff worthy team 3 times in the past 10 years. In their 4 playoff appearances, they were not hot and made a quick exit every time except 2019. Winning 90+ games only 3 times in 10 years is not good enough.

Over the next 5 years Dodgers catch Cards. They will aggressively address and weakness and line up holes this offseason. Good chance for 3 in a row.
2027 who knows what’s happening? Strike? Mandatory adjustments to salary structures but Dodgers will win at least one more in Season 2028 thru 2030.
In the mean time Cardinals will be stressing player development and righting the ship.

Unsure but all of us know the saying 'records are made to be broken ' . While there are records that apply to our favorite players or team that fans do not wish to see broken , nevertheless those records bite the dust often ..some just take longer than others. When I was younger many felt no player would surpass Babe Ruth's career HR record but Hank Aaron did it .sp25 wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 12:41 pmI was just about to post this. The MLB record considered the most unbreakable is DiMaggio's consecutive game hit streak of 56 games. 16 years from now will be the 100 year mark of that record . Will some player surpass it ? probably but it may take more than 100 years but when it happens some will say I can't believe it finally happened !

The LA Dodgers are the NY Yankees of the NL.
BDW and Mo let the organization rot from within for the last ~12 years allowing this transition to happen sooner than later.

Dewitt doesn’t want to change his business model from 15 years ago to adapt it to the current economic climate of MLB. He is now 100% pinning the future of the Cardinals on a salary cap. The owners will fail to get a cap. It will leave the Cardinals in a dark place as DeWitt will refuse to adjust. STL will see an NFL team return before their 12 World Series title.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 12:32 pm Tied with Red Sox and Oakland Athletics. Irks me no end. I pray I am wrong, but people said I was wrong five years ago when I raised red flags on how Mo was running the team. We see how that turned out.

It’s inevitable that the Dodgers and Sox pass us. Just accept it.Galatians221jb1 wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 12:32 pm Tied with Red Sox and Oakland Athletics. Irks me no end. I only wish that the DeWitts felt that way also.
Re: Dodgers now two less WS championships than Cards
If things don't change, you will see some of the teams fold. The Pirates and Marlins don't draw enough to make payroll and the Pirates will lose that great pitcher they have very soon to Free Agency and who do you think will get him? We all know that it will be one of the top revenue teams. The players need to understand that if revenue is split, as in the NFL and NBA, the players will still get their money...it just won't be with the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, or Phillies.
There is a reason that Buffalo and Kansas City can compete for the Super Bowl.

I know it has been something we have hung our hat on for my entire life. Net Net, a bunch of [nonsense] in any event.
The Yanks are the only team any care about with 25 or 27 Championships.
Oh, but in the NL, we have had the most..other than us, few fellow BB fans give a (bleep) about who is 2, especially in view of the Wide Gulf between 1 and 2.

Re: Dodgers now two less WS championships than Cards
Whether or not they are surpassed, the Cards are historically a great baseball franchise.
More than half of their world titles are basically WWII and before.
They aren’t the Yankees and never will be. I guess if being number two is so important then being upset about possibly being surpassed by others matters somehow.
The bigger issue for me isn’t that they are surpassed someday. The bigger issue is that they are no longer RELEVANT and are not likely to be so for a long time. They need to be sold before that can happen.

Didn’t see your post until after I posted my own. Yours is better stated.Dazepster wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 10:32 am I know it has been something we have hung our hat on for my entire life. Net Net, a bunch of [nonsense] in any event.

If DeWitt is struggling to thrive on his $150 million investment and sells for $2.5 billion, how in the wide, wide world of sports will the new owner prosper?Hofikebrucee wrote: ↑03 Nov 2025 12:24 pm Whether or not they are surpassed, the Cards are historically a great baseball franchise.

Yea when you spend the amount of money they did on their rotation and team you are going to have a good team. Their talent level is off the charts they had injuries that hurt them all season on their record. They didn’t get hot at the right time they got healthy at the right time like the 2006 team. Only fools would think the brewers or any of those teams were better than the dodgers based on regular season recordscardstatman wrote: ↑02 Nov 2025 14:46 pm The Dodgers are the team which won the weak division title, not the Brewers.
