All day. In addition to his considerable counting stats and durability he's posted excellent post-season numbers, plus he might be the best liked MLB player going.

Looking further down his bbref page, I see Hodges isn't in his top 10 comps, which has ex-Cards Paul Goldschmidt, Will Clark, and Matt Holliday in the top 5.

Jesus, how old are you? Gil Hodges of all people comes to mind in comparison?? The guy has been dead for well over 50 freaking years.

He's a no-doubter at this point for me. He's got the longevity, the consistency, an MVP, the type of fanfare the voters seem to approve of, and the postseason moments in two places that only bolster his resume.

The interesting comparison is Freeman and Goldschmidt. My long-time impression was that they were neck-and-neck as far as the 1st base class. Both probably appeared to be having borderline HOF careers. My impression at this point is that Freeman has separated himself. However, when I go check the numbers are closer than I would have thought.

Freeman: born 9/89 (36 y/o), current service time 14.033
- 64.2 bWar, 64.8 fWar, .897 OPS, 142 OPS+, 547 2B, 367 HR, 1322 RBI

Goldschmidt: born 9/87 (38 y/o), current service time 13.059
- 63.8 bWar, 57.3 fWar, .882 OPS, 137 OPS+, 477 2B, 372 HR, 1232 RBI

So, they are pretty close indeed, with Goldschmidt being pretty close across the board. However, I think the kicker is Freeman being two years younger and still appearing to be in his prime... while Goldschmidt is at the point of playing year-by-year at this point, if not just retiring all together.

I think Freeman when it's said and done will be a slam dunk candidate with 400+ HR, and Goldschmidt will still be borderline.

I think that's where I'm at. Goldy is Hall of Very Good IMO and certainly worth a discussion, but Freeman gets in no question if he just stays healthy for another couple seasons.

Agreed. Freeman still has hits and HR in that bat. If he sticks with LA perhaps more WS lure…..
As we were able to watch Goldy closely here…..He’s not in Freeman’s class. He would go weeks in an ice cold slump when the team needed him and his leadership/PS qualities falls short of Freeman.
