Blues Expanded Analytics.

Post by callitwhatyouwant »

I'm not a big fan of overanalyzing expanded analytics, but it's interesting to breakdown what apparently is happening. For offense they are middle of the pack, depending on who's stuff you are using they are falling 14-20. On defense is where things are really blowing up. For every category their skaters are in the top 5, whether thats expected goals against, high danger chances, shots against, slot shots, odd man breaks, everything. They ring up 3-5 on every category.

The glaring one that we all know but I didn't realize Binner was doing this bad. Hofer is last in the league and Binner is 41st in no traffic shot saves. So shots that aren't getting a lucky bounce, we have 2 goalies that aren't performing as starters. That is a back breaker.

What does this mean for the team? Probably a better team than billed. But Goalie play is substantially worse than anyone expected. If that doesn't turn around, our above average defense and average offense have 0 shot.
