2025 Could be largest HC shake up ever

Post by rezero »

I was watching ESPN and they are forecasting 15 P4 head coaching vacancies will exist by the end of the year. These include:

Current:
LSU, Penn State, Florida, Virginia Tech, UCLA, Arkansas, Oklahoma State and Stanford.

Greater than 50% that these will open before end of year:
Florida State, Auburn, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Kentucky and NC State (possibly Colorado pending Deions medical status)

This equates to 15 of the 65 P4 schools (23%). If you assume half are filled with other P4 HCs, then 1/3 (33%) of P4 teams will have a new HC in 2026. This would be an all time record per ESPN.

This could make the transfer portal more active than it already is and teams can fully reshape their roster quickly.

several of them are talking about bringing the Lane Train to their U but he is proving you don't have to be at only certain destinations to win a natty as he is going to be in the playoffs and most likely the SEC championship as they have the easiest schedule left. FL is no longer the place it once one as their boosters meddle way too much in running program and doubtful Lane has any interest there. But LSU IS intriguing because it does attack a ton of NFL talent and has the history of winning Natty's.

what's crazy is programs are not even flinching when they have to pay out 40 or 50MM buyouts anymore. IMO KY will eat Stoops buyout as he has lost his fastball and is now just a guy who doesn't seem to care. Beamer ball has just about run it's course already.

OP is correct there has NEVER been a year like this with coaches getting fired. several of them will resurface quickly as programs are desperate and will rationalize new hires.

Will Eli be tempted? sure his agent probably is fielding inquires as we speak BUT he has it literally made at MU and has everything he wants with little pressure. Plus a top 10 contract. He will listen but doubtful he would leave unless there was some family reason for it like Baker had.

What is or would be interesting to know is who the schools are that would really be after him. Lots of talk but often true intentions...feelers versus interest versus he's our guy are not made aware for all to see.

I'm in the camp that short of something ridiculous he stays....he might get a renewed contract doing it but.... he stays put.
