If Arenado is traded Saggese becomes even more relevant

Post by Shady »

Saggese may then get a legitimate opportunity to start at 3B or 2B. The emergence of Wetherholt to go along with the talented Saggese on the infield has a lot of potential to help the Cardinals' offense in '26.

No he doesn't become relevant at all, let alone "more" relevant.

JJW is going to be starting at 2nd Base w/N. Gorman at 3rd Base if NADO is dealt.

Saggese is J.A.G., what is the obsession w/a player who slashed .258 .299 .338 .638 in 2025? :?

If he's here, then he's a utility player (replacing B. Donovan if he's dealt).

He also could be a throw in on any bigger deal C. Bloom could make.

Either way, he's NOT a starter at any position.

You’ve already done this thread topic. Numerous times.

Gorman will never be the starting third baseman for STL. I would rather he be dealt than Arenado.

Saggese has outplayed him at every level

If an infield position opens up. Unless Gorman establishes more consistency, Saggese will challenge him for a starting infield spot. Saggese is only 23 and has a lot of offensive upside. Like with Burleson. Marmol seems to really like having Saggese in the lineup. JMO

No chance and he hasn't shown any early indication that he has much "offensive upside".

Gorman has a career .419 slg%/.719 OPS w/raw power.

Saggese is a weak hitting, back-of-the-bench utility player w/no power.

There's no way he's a starting 3rd baseman in MLB.

Neither would be my choice but of the two, Gorman is by far and away the starter.

They are serious about wanting to tank if they have Gorman playing at third everyday. Bad defense can’t hit low on base low ops just an awful player. He’s worse than a JAG he’s a just another awful player

If Bloom trades Arenado but is unable to trade Nootbaar. It will likely be some combo of Donovan and Wetherholt at 3B/2B. With Saggese as the utility infielder. Maybe Saggese also works some as a utility outfielder.

I'll take Saggese over Gorman every day and twice on Sunday.

Oh, you are anticipating Sunday doubleheaders !
Sounds good if 2 gamed for price of 1. Too bad that is history.

That's what they're going to use 2026 for, to see if players like N. Gorman are going to pan out or is it time to cut the cord and move on.

lol bloom is awful if he doesn’t know what he has in Gorman and wants to give him another run way season. I said it last off season he will suck have a good month or two and Mel would start patting himself on the back saying how smart he is for being right about Gorman and others will say he’s finally figured it out he looks like a completely different hitter because every hitter looks good when they are in a hot streak then he will go back to sucking and his numbers would suck and I was 100% right. He will do the same thing next season also. But I guess after this runway season they will give him a runway career

So trading one's starting 3B makes one of the 3B backups more relevant. I just smacked my forehead wondering how I hadn't thought of that. Keep 'em coming, we're learning a lot here.
