David Freese Half Hour Interview on TMA 10-16
anyone else listen?
They talked for quite a while on why he wouldn't accept the Red Jacket Cards HOF. I was surprised by his answer.
He said he didn't accept not because of baseball, but because he didn't feel like he was a good enough person off the field during his cardinals tenure to be worthy of the jacket. He was still struggling with personal issues.
secondly, he did say he may be open to going into the cardinals hall of fame in the future, but he is still working through how he felt he was during his cardinals tenure.
he was very humble and funny during the interview. He stated during his time that Matt Holliday would take up to 10 players out for dinner often. He said it wasn't a problem for Matt because "he did pretty well the first and fifteenth of every month"
it was a good interview, i'm sure it's available somewhere to stream

Thanks for the post.
I've always rooted for David Freese and will continue to do so. I hope someday he will accept his red jacket.

David Freese did some great things for St Louis particularly in 2011 post season.... But, I tend to agree that the Red Jacket might be a bridge too far. I'm sorry about his off field problems but they hampered his contributions much like Keith Hernandez' did.

Not in 2011, they didn't.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 14:04 pm David Freese did some great things for St Louis particularly in 2011 post season.... Epic-and worthy of that honor IMO.

I agree. He authored easily one of the top 5, possibly top 3 moments in the history of the Cardinal organizationimetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 14:09 pmNot in 2011, they didn't.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 14:04 pm David Freese did some great things for St Louis particularly in 2011 post season.... I've heard from multiple girls that post-2011 heroics, Freese was a MAJOR doosh when encountered in bars and nightclubs. Basically thought any and every chick he wanted should be his, he could act like the biggest d*ck in the world and everyone should tolerate it, and he could say anything he wanted to anyone and they should just bow.Adam2 wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 08:35 am anyone else listen?

Nice to see he's been humbled with age. I'm certainly not proud of a lot of my youth behavior, although I had a rogue wisdom tooth fragment eating a hole through my skull for almost 2 decades so I kinda had a valid reason for getting blasted to kill pain.
Freese was just an *ss. I mean, to be the biggest postseason legend in STL Cardinal history and still get run out of town less than 2 years after that, you've got to have some serious issues.
Apparently, he ended many encounters by saying, "Don't you know who the F I am?"

I heard a similar story from a friend who happened to be at the same bar on Washington Ave as Freese a couple years after 2011. But many of us did stupid things in our 20s and we had zero fame and a fraction of his money. It appears as though he's matured and grown up a bit, which is what matters.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 15:04 pmI've heard from multiple girls that post-2011 heroics, Freese was a MAJOR doosh when encountered in bars and nightclubs. I appreciate what he did in 2011 postseason and feel great empathy for him. He doesn't need to apologize to me and when he has forgiven himself for his poor behavior after 2011 then maybe it's all good. Clearly the organization isn't holding the sword of Damocles over his head....he manages that balancing act all by himself. He knows what he did and to whom...Not holding my breath for the ceremony.imetsatchelpaige wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 14:09 pmNot in 2011, they didn't.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑17 Oct 2025 14:04 pm David Freese did some great things for St Louis particularly in 2011 post season.... Sorry, but I disagree and applaud Freese for rejecting it.
