ESPN: Jeff Albert to be named Mets’ lead hitting coach

Post by NYCardsFan »

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/465 ... ources-say
Jeff Albert, the Mets' director of hitter development, will serve as the team's lead hitting coach in 2026 and be in uniform, sources told ESPN.

While Albert's title has not been defined, he was formerly the hitting coach of the St. Louis Cardinals. Albert, 44, joined the Mets in November 2022 and has worked in a development capacity, helping the team rebuild a system that has its strongest group of hitting prospects in years.

Albert also spent six years with the Houston Astros, where he worked with Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns. The Mets plan to bring in another coach to complement Albert, sources said, after they fired hitting coaches Jeremy Barnes and Eric Chavez as part of a staff revamp that also included the departures of pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, bench coach John Gibbons, third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh and catching coach Glenn Sherlock.

It’s merely a revolving door when it comes to players and coaches. Look at a players resume and a coaches. Numerous teams. One big pool to choose from. As an outsider it’s tough to break in as a coach.

He did well in St Louis.

I have to assume you’re referencing the nonsense story that Mozeliak told suggesting he had a hard time with criticism. In reality, that was Mozeliak spinning a narrative while avoiding accountability about the building culture and development program in the organization.

Recall he also said Maddux left because he wanted to spend more time with his family… Maddux promptly took on the same role with the Rangers.

Mozeliak spinning a story would not surprise me at all. Maybe it was a toxic culture.

Albert was a hitting development guy working for an organization falling behind and not investing in what was needed for player development. Albert went to an org that was investing.

Mozeliak somehow convinced himself and part of the fan base that Jeff Albert was soft and left because of criticism from fans on social media. It was always spin without an element of truth to it. It’s always bugged me that people bought that story from Mo.

OldFriend's formula:

"I like X player/coach!"

When player/coach does well!"

"Yay me!"

When player/coach doesn't do well."

"See, it was the organization's fault."

(See Jeff Albert, Libby, O'Neill, etc.)

So… is this a weird personal shot at me for no reason?

Or did you actually believe Mozeliak’s stories about Albert and Maddux?

There’s a lot more, I don’t have time to spell it all out. He made a meaningful positive impact for the org and they’ve gone backwards since he left.

It’s gotta be a strange way to live to completely ignore or dismiss that which challenges your preconceived notions.
