Don't know if I needed to start a new thread as this regards Ellis, but just had a question about waivers. I'm sure that the whole waiver process can be a little complicated, but what factor made Ellis have to clear waivers before his being sent down to the AHL?
Evidently it had nothing to do with NHL experience because he's never played a NHL game correct? Is it age? Does it have anything with him being invited to training camp?
Baseball has a 40 man roster as far as protection for teams keeping players. Is there something like that in the NHL?
MN can you give me some info or any other knowledgeable Blues fan? Thanks !!

Re: Waivers
It can be complicated but basically it’s a table based on pro years played and games played based on the players age when he signed his first pro contract. For Ellis, he became waiver eligible once he played 4 pro seasons or 80 NHL games. Last season was his 4th in the minors so that’s why he had to pass through waivers this time.
This explains it much better:

No, there’s not a 40-man roster equivalent in the NHL. It’s basically the waiver rules explained via that link.

You could look it up yourself. You don't need "Minnesota" to hold your hand.
