My understanding was that Romanov was with the Devils on a PTO and was last in Utica’s training camp.

Played 8 games with the Sharks last season, 21 with the Barracuda.

I like the numbers Ellis posted better. Guessing this is just an AHL replacement in case they don’t get Ellis back. Otherwise I would have expected a more veteran backup.

Yes, Ellis would be considered better. I would consider Romanov insurance in the event we don’t get Ellis back. Between him, Zherenko and Cranley, hopefully at least one of the 3 can be a good AHL goalie. Probably not Team MVP caliber that Ellis delivered a year ago but they just need to be adequate.

And best case scenario, UPL comes off IR, Buffalo waives Ellis and we can get him back.

It would be slightly embarrassing for Army if his AHL squad loses more than they win--given that it stocked full with 2023 re-whatever finds.
