Fun Thought Experiment
Here is the scenario me and my two daughters played out tonight: you’re the best hockey player in the world. Every team in the league has offered you max dollars and term. Which city/team are you choosing? Ya can’t pick the blues!
My 13 year old picked Edmonton (she’s a McDavid fan and wants to play in a Canadian market, which I find hilarious). My 10 year old picked the Rangers - she fell in love with them after the Tarasenko trade. I picked MN because it’s a great hockey market and it would be cool to be part of that teams first Stanley cup. Also one of the few non-Blues franchises I don’t despise. I thought about Montreal and Toronto too but I think the pressure would be too much.
Would love to hear what other people might choose.
Please remember - it’s supposed to be fun. No pissing in other peoples Cheerios.

If I was playing hockey, I wouldn't need no stinking TOP5 draft picks on my team other than myself.
I'd go to a city that loves hockey, and I'd go back in time. My pick would be the Minnesota North Stars.

Further. I don't know if there is any young eligible men listening, but...
I know of two TOP5 picks that are possibly free agents. I would inquire in 6 years--IF I WERE YOU. Imagine the hockey conversations you could have over a lifetime together.

First pick: Boston. Why? So I could be on the ice when the Blues won the Cup. If I can’t wear the Note, I’ll settle for being the guy in the wrong jersey watching history happen up close. That’s the next best thing, right?
Now for the nostalgia tour: Back in the 90s, I was all about the logos—Calgary’s C on fire, New Jersey’s devil tail, the Nordiques’ icy colors, and then the Sharks came in swinging with that teal and chomping stick. Still love the Wild’s logo today, and I’ll throw in the Mammoth for good measure. Gotta respect a good design.
Final answer though? New Jersey. Just let me be Scott Stevens’ defense partner. I don’t need the spotlight—just a front row seat to that guy turning opponents into highlight reels. That’s hockey poetry.

Tampa bay or Buffalo
Re: Fun Thought Experiment
Coastal urban centers and rust belt cities - hard no. Younger, I fell in love with skiing and snowmobiling. As a pro athlete those are taboo, scratch Colorado.
With money no object I'd be tempted by Tampa, but having spent some time there I know I would quickly tire of the tourists and weather. Single, I might bite. With a family, no.
I've never been to Utah, that would be a possibility. Lots of varied outdoor recreation and scenery.
Probably, though, Nashville or Carolina. Carolina has nearby mountains and beaches. I do like Tennessee. I've stayed in a house on a semi-private lake there which was peaceful and gorgeous, plenty of nearby boating venues. Lots of entertainment and interesting people to hang out with.

Can I ask why Buffalo? They were pretty high on my list too because I used to love watching Patty L. and Mogilny play together. Plus I’d love to be on that team if/when they ever win cup.
