Did Cards fleece the Mets...

Post by wschreiber »

Helsey still looked respectable, but on a downward spiral when Cards traded him. Cards receied a couple nice prospects for Ryan Helsey. Jesus Baez and Nate Dohm look like they could have potential, not sure yet on Elissalt. Be interesting to see what Bloom's new empasis on development can produce.

Welcome to the board. I don't think they knew Helsley would implode. He just did. The return is ok, but it's not fabulous. They are more useful to the Cardinals than keeping Helsley 2 more months would have been.

One thing about adding decent prospects, they may be valuable to put in other trades at a later date.

Well if the Mets don’t trade for helsley and if whatever pitcher they used instead was just bad instead of a complete disaster they would have made the post season I’d say yes they got fleeced

Jesus Baez is at least a few years away if he makes it at all. But he is a nice guy to dream on. And, he plays 3rd base which is a position we might be thin on (after Arenado, if we don't view either Wetherholt or Donovan as a long-term solution at 3B).

Yeah, Helsley was tossing BP most outings for the Mets. Wasn't even good when eventually relegated to mopping up
