The following:
Brewers
Home 52-29
Road 45-36
Dodgers
Home 52-29
Road 41-40
Phillies
Home 55-26
Road 41-40
Cubs
Home 50-31
Road 42-39
And then there's the Cardinals
Cards
Home 44-37
Road 34-47
Way under water on the road. But to a larger point. Why are teams so much better at home? Is it explainable by the home team batting last? Are there other explanations like sign stealing and air conditioners?(for indoor teams) Why does a team play so much better at home even though they have basically the same talent level as a team on the road. (Comparable teams)? I don't know. Does anyone have any ideas why?

I can’t explain a home field advantage. I think is simply comes down to norms. At home, you have a structure routine. On the road that’s totally disrupted, although an attempt to mimic a home field environment fails.CCard wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 06:49 am The following:

As for the Cardinals. That’s a lot of games under .500 and how many were sweeps.

Yeah, the only thing I can think of is the home team bats last. Maybe the fans can influence an umpire's calls?sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 07:00 amI can’t explain a home field advantage. Yes, there’s the advantages of bottom-inning at-bats, and the familiarity factor of your own park. And you’re more likely performing in front of your spouse, girlfriend, or family.
But the other factor is the emotional element in baseball:
Ever been at a game when the crowd just “knows” that the batter will hit a game-tying or winning home run - and then he does it? I’ve been there several times.
Ever see a game when almost “every” batter on the lineup in sequence- gets a hit or “keeps the line moving”? How does that happen?
Ever see those team that defensively “feed” off a great defensive play, and all seem to become gold -glovers, if only for a few minutes?
A rising tide carries all boats.

I think part of it can be attributed to travel and everything along with it. Travel can mentally wear you out. then factor in hotels, finding restaurants etc. Sort of like how you feel exhausted when you get back from a vacation. There's nothing that specifically wore you out, just a lot involved with the travel process
not saying that costs teams a ton of games directly, but it has to factor in

I think part of it with some teams is the make up of the team. Teams with young players, I think at times those young guys want to get out in a new town and see the sights. The veteran team has been there, done that, so they tend to stay closer to a normal schedule.

I think you cite the biggest factor. Especially the west coast travel.Adam2 wrote: ↑07 Oct 2025 07:55 am I think part of it can be attributed to travel and everything along with it. Anyone who's travelled for business knows it's just not the same as when you sleep in your own bed and go to the office.
