In unbiased world..Penn St and Texas should drop from rankings

Post by rezero »

If both loses…..

Penn State is losing to an abysmal UCLA team, and now have a 3-2 with their best win coming against Nevada. Texas likewise will be 3-2 and have their best win against UTEP. The media wants Penn St. and Arch to stay relevant so they will probably both stay around 15-20, but neither team has beat any power 4 opponent and the season is now almost half over.

Penn State in no world should stay 15-20 with 2 losses, 1 being to 0-4 UCLA.

Texas at least lost 2 at tough venues, but yeah, they haven't beaten anybody with a pulse. Both should be out and have to earn their way back in. Penn St. could easily lose 2 more with @Iowa and home vs. Indiana along with their automatic loss at Ohio State. You lose to UCLA, you can lose to anybody.

Franklin is in lala land (literally), but he just said Penn State “may drop out of the top 20” which will be the first time in 4 years.

Well, who thinks Texas will beat Oklahoma at home next week ? They're not top 25 material...this ain't the BIG 12 ya know.

They currently stand 11th out of a 16 team SEC field. With home games against ranked Vanderbilt and the Aggies, plus a road game against Georgia.....I'll go out on a not so proverbial limb and say they'll end the season at 6-6 and maybe play in the SCOOTER'S COFFEE FRISCO BOWL....

And Penn St. still have to play Ohio State on the road and get Indiana at home, at 8-4 they might get themselves in the WASABI FENWAY BOWL...throw in another loss to the likes of Iowa on the road or Nebraska at home and they're not top 25 material and would be lucky to garner the GO BOWLING MILITARY BOWL

Ya might as well boot both Texas and Penn St. out of the top 25 this week and let some other up and comer get some of the spotlight for a change....

I'll start with Mizzou.

In what world should a Mizzou fan worry about any two loss teams on Oct 5th?

I jumped on that bet as Texas offense is abysmal. That is a big spread (9.5) for a team that beat UTEP by 17. Like UTEP, OU plays a lot of cover 2 which forces the QB to be accurate on short passes. Manning was 11-25 passing in that game as he has horrible short ball accuracy. Texas is staring at 7-5 this year.

The betting shops. Texas really covered that spread at Florida. And Penn State was favored by 20 plus points at UCLA. Those spreads represented the folly of the bettors, not the shops. Those two teams had overrated stamped on their foreheads.

Texas is opening as a favorite vs. the Sooners because apparently Mateer isn't playing for OU. So that makes sense. But I'm not sure that Texas OLine can keep the Sooners' DLine at bay. Could be a low-scoring game.

Sneer at the bookies all you want but never forget who paid for all those bright lights in Vegas.

Texas is stuck with the inconsistencies of a first-year starter at QB but if they don't find a way to run the ball better than they did against Florida, OU will eat them up and laugh doing it.

The shops are not the ones to be sneered at. They always make money. It's the Penn State bettors who gave 20+ points to UCLA when Penn State hadn't beaten anyone but 3 blood donors. And even the Texas bettors who gave any points to Florida on the road when the only 3 teams Texas had beaten were total cupcakes. The bookies laughed all the way to the bank with the juice.

Cherry-picking. Forget blood donors, UCLA hadn't beat anyone, plus they fired their head coach two weeks ago, their DC a few days after that, and their OC this past Monday. Without benefit of hindsight the line wasn't outlandish.

Naturally there's a lot of variance in results and you can always find a game to make a point. Georgia was listed -20.5 and won by 21, for example.
