Happy Birthday, Mister Goalie!!!
Glenn Hall was going home to paint his barn so the BlackHawks left him unprotected and Lynn Patrick wisely picked him in the expansion draft. He and his butterfly style anchored the Blues run through the 1967-68 SCF. He won the Conn Smythe as the MVP of the playoffs, despite the Blues being swept by the Canadiens. Each game was decided by one goal, two in OT. He combined with Jacques Plante to win the Vezina Trophy the following year posting 8 shutouts. His playing time diminished the next two years, as that barn still hadn’t been painted. When he retired following the 70-71 season, the Blues entered into the goaltender wilderness. Folks, it’s players like Hall, Berenson, Arbour, Plante, the Plagers, and Sabourin why we still have a St. Louis Blues to root for. Had it not been for the foundation laid by them, they would have moved or folded long before Brett Hull and 2019.

You bet man. I, by opertunity got asimilated at the very first game. Other things were happening that contributed to the instant populatity of our Blues, but obviously the way they played while just starting in the NHL was a big thrill for us fans. I was learning about Hockey as I was being indoctrinated and the more I learned, the more I loved everything about hockey. I have to definately, with a gold star mention Dan Kelly who simply made the game real for us to "watch" on the radio. And I too wish Mister Goalie, Glenn Hall, a very happy birthday.

Simply my favorite Blue of all-time. Only here a short time but gave us instant credibility.
Talk about records that will never be broken.... 502 CONSECUTIVE starts in goal. 552 if counting playoffs.
Beyond that, such an soft- spoken, humble superstar.
I'll never forget him.

Glenn Hall was my first hockey hero. He’s why I became a goalie, and I emulated his and Tony Esposito’s style rather than being a “stand-up” goalie. I played beer league goalie in 3 different cities until age 51 and loved it!

ONLY
Six players have won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP on the losing side, including Roger Crozier (1966), Glenn Hall (1968), Reggie Leach (1976), Ron Hextall (1987), Jean-Sébastien Giguère (2003), and most recently Connor McDavid (2024)

If you never saw Roger Crozier, you should check him out, He was amazing, very Acrobatic, Reckless and Completely Unorthodox. Unique especially for the times.
He was Dominik Hasek before there was a Dominik Hasek !

Re: Happy Birthday, Mister Goalie!!!
Absolutely! Roger was a very entertaining goalie and his style, like Hall’s, flew in the face of what most coaches thought was the preferred style, “stand-up”. Acrobatic goalies in those days ran the risk of demotion to the minors because most coaches thought standing up and cutting down the angle was the ONLY way to play goal. Of course, this was in the days before goalie coaches, and head coach tyrants like Punch Imlach of the Leafs thought they knew more about goaltending than the goalies.
Guys like Crozier & Hall had to prove their style worked by results! And indeed, those 2 had the results.
Unfortunately, Crozier had a long bout with pancreatitis which constantly bothered him and ultimately shortened his career and his life. He was only 53 when he died.
