Marmol vs. Shildt Hypothetical: If Marmol were in San Diego
A lot of people have trashed Shildt on this site.
Say what you will, the man is a winner.
Always has won being manager.
Food for thought--If Marmol had the team in San Diego, does he win 90?
Shildt is at 88 as of today.
May not break 90, but I say no way would Marmol even be close.
He'd have at most 83 wins.

I don't know, Oli did win 90 in 2022. I would rather have Shildt but to honest I think I could win close to 90 with the Padres team.

I think Shildt is a bit underrated here on CT.HorseTrader wrote: ↑27 Sep 2025 08:01 am I don't know, Oli did win 90 in 2022. I would rather have Shildt but to honest I think I could win close to 90 with the Padres team.
There's something about him that fires up his teams.
Seems like he wins every year.
Re: Marmol vs. Shildt Hypothetical: If Marmol were in San Diego
Marmol now has 3 consecutive years of negative run diff.
And 3 consecutive losing seasons.
One of those seasons was nearly the worst in Cards history.
I think 2023 he was 71-91 with a negative 110 run diff.
Pathetic.
Yet, we might be stuck with this clown next year.

93 wins. Won the NL Central with talent.HorseTrader wrote: ↑27 Sep 2025 08:01 am I don't know, Oli did win 90 in 2022. I would rather have Shildt but to honest I think I could win close to 90 with the Padres team.
When else has he had talent?
Oli isn't the main cause of the record.

It could be argued that Schildt’s team is underachieving and I have a suspicion that Oli does indeed blow, but in his defense, no one can win with a trash rotation.Bully4you wrote: ↑27 Sep 2025 07:56 am A lot of people have trashed Shildt on this site.

That said, my gut still says give me Schildt over Marmol, just based on the fire in his belly to win, which Marmol seems to sorely lack, to the degree that it has manifested into the culture of our young players.

It’s troubling you have to explain that to some..

Re: Marmol vs. Shildt Hypothetical: If Marmol were in San Diego
The cardinals missed the post season three consecutive seasons under Matheny shildt takes over they make the post season all three full seasons in which he manages gets fired goes to the padres where they missed the posts season three season the season before and will get them to the post season both seasons he has been there. Oli took over the cardinals got them to the post season once when he had Molina and Albert to provide leadership then missed the next three when he had to provide the leadership finishing under .500 2 of the 4 seasons. Arenado said it himself in may the past couple of seasons the team has come to the park hoping good things happen instead of expecting things to happen. That’s a losing culture that has set in since Molina and Albert left and oli doesn’t have the ability to change. Even mikolas spoke volumes about the teams culture when asked about fans doubting the team he said he would like to tell them to eat [shirt] but wouldn’t because he might be wrong. That’s a losers mentality that the whole team has. Renteria thanked Larussa for teaching him how to be a winner oli isn’t teaching them how to be winners
