"Pitching" would seem to connote an expertise or ability in throwing or fielding the pitcher position.

Throwing might be a better description as it lacks the expertise required to pitch in MLB.

If he had "eaten more innings" today, who knows how many more HRs he surrenders?

2nd lowest K rate in MLB. Even when he had good outings, they were mostly dependent on batted-ball luck.
