At the very least I will put this down now, predicting, that this will come out as a good trade for both teams. That's the faith I have in the Blues staff in analyzing players......and I mean both of them.
A good winger and a good RHD man right now straight up in todays NHL.
Which would you choose?

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
Of course Bolduc will do well as i have shown repeatedly the Blues amatuer dept excels and consistently produce kids who outperform their draft position.
This was the right move bc a young stud RHD is far more valuable that a top 6 LW. Blues have Carbonneau, Dvorsky, Stenberg on the upswing and Kyrou, Snuggerud, Buch, Holloway and Neighbours already firmly entrenched so they were in a position to trade from depth.
All that said as i mentioned before Bolducs ONLY pro hockey production has come in a small window under Monty so while Im sure Bolduc will produce he isnt a sure thing yet

Depends on need. Every situation is different and not all positions or players are NHL ready at the same time.dhsux wrote: ↑25 Sep 2025 17:42 pmI wish him the best. I think he will do well but time will tell.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑25 Sep 2025 17:12 pm Good analysis on Bolduc.

I will say that a big RHD with offensive instincts is becoming a unicorn in today's game. If you have a shot at one, you take it.

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
The way I look at it is this:
I can draft another Bolduc, and in fact looks like the Blues already did.
With the way the position is going, unless you are drafting top 15 or so, the odds of being able to draft a potential top 4 RHDman are becoming incredibly small, unless you keep who you are scouting on the extreme down low like the Blues did with Parayko.
With those odds, I'm trading a Bolduc for a Mailloux every single team. I'm taking that gamble without even blinking.

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
Let's keep revisiting this trade ad nauseum, Bolduc has had one very good season. Let's see what we got first and give our coach time to adapt him.
Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
I think we will see Zach Bolduc and Logan Mailloux have great years. Both of these players can turn out to be excellent and max out at their potential and both teams did a good job assessing their teams needs and making a trade. This isn't a zero sum game. Sometimes everyone can fill a need and win, that is a good thing.

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
Mailloux is not only a RHD, he fits in Montgomery’s system that strongly wants the defense to be aggressive on the offensive side of the puck. Before trading for Fowler the Blues badly lacked offensive defenseman.
Colt had an amazing year offensively and he isn’t an “offensive defensemen”. If Broberg starts to free himself up then the Blues will have 3 legit offensive defenders to go along with Colt.

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
I wish the best for Bolduc but I'm rooting for Mailloux and the Blues. There is reason for optimism.

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
Oddly enough I was in Montreal yesterday after spending the last two weeks in Italy and Austria. I talked with a few Habs fans, most were very excited about Bolduc but one guy really thought trading Mailloux was a mistake even with the addition of Dobson. Also, all those fans I talked with wanted to talk mostly about Monty which I found a little weird even if he is from Montreal but they all love him as a coach. They were more interested in talking about him then talking about Bolduc. I got the impression that Monty is on their wish list and I told them it’s gonna be awhile before that wish is granted. Good people up there…we just started talking hockey like we do right here on the forum

This reminds me of when Calgary traded Brett Hull to St. Louis - I remember all of the people on the Flames message board that would say stuff like "he only had one good season" or "he's just a product of our coach".

Re: Bolduc Analysis - Proven Ability
I don't think he's necessarily comparing the player per se, but rather comparing the similarities of the situation itself and things that were said at that time
