LUCIC

Post by BluesDom »

Those that are attending camp and watching closer than I--Thoughts on Lucic?

My thoughts--his career wasnt very good at the end. I dont want him here. There is no need. I dont think he makes the team. No hard feelings toward the guy. I love the type of player he is. I love the thought of him. Just not sure how a 37/38 yr old fits in with this group. Makes no sense to me.
He's honestly in the way IMO. Let a youngster take the spot.

Thoughts? Does he get cut soon?

He left practice early yesterday after tweaking his groin and is listed day to day.

I agree. Neighbors, Tucker & Schenn bring enough of a physical protection for the youngsters in today's modern NHL.
However, having no idea if Lucic would be open to a two-way contract, then if allowed maybe he can add value in Springfield? And he may think that by being under contract could allow him to get promoted as injuries may happen, or to be available for end of season push and playoffs. Or another team may have injuries or something else that they inquire about getting him? If he is playing/practicing rather than sitting at home, then those contingencies are more realistic for him.
But if what I just described potentially blocks a youngster in Springfield from getting the time to develop, then forget it.

I’ll be surprised if he makes it. Shocked if he plays over 30 games.

The spot Lucic would get has nothing to do with youngsters, If it is thought one of our young players/prospects was best served playing NHL games then they will/would be Lucic or no Lucic.

They're all small dudes (6'1 200ish); and the Captain doesn't need to be fighting much, Neighbours doesn't need to risk an injury in a fight (concussion, broken hand, etc). They need a large heavyweight or at least a capable middleweight.

I've seen him 4 or 5 times. I don't see it happening.

Especially with the groin pull/issue, I can't see ML making the team. He looks like he's laboring every time he's on the ice.

This is the important part. If the Blues truly want to push for the playoffs, they need a regular season guy to take the lead on this stuff. Army said it pretty flat out, there aren't many teams that can shove the Blues around, but there are 3-4 that aren't necessarily worried about the physical side when playing the Blues. Lucic is there to possibly cover those basis. If that is the truth, then playing Lucic sparingly like in a Reeves role isn't the worst thing, assuming Lucic is on board with that and he isn't a Reeves level anchor. If the Blues are going to be a playoff team, they have 2 challenges in front of them. Getting the young guys to make big strides, and getting the team to be relatively healthy at the end. I don't want to hear that Schenn had to play in the playoffs again with broken ribs because he's our wake the F up guy on the ice. Tucker seemed to take some of that responsibility last year, but we don't need to see his face caved in either. And Neighbours is approaching the too valuable to risk injury category.

I was actually hoping all along he'd be open to playing in Springfield while he gets back into the swing of things, and after I saw him the other night I thought he would be fine in the press box most games. We don't have anything like him, whereas we have plenty that can bring what Texier brings, which is not Stanley Cup Champion, 1177GP, 586pts experience and wisdom.

I won't be upset at all if he doesn't work out, but it would be nice if he did.

Also worth noting is that Mailloux can now be in the mix of those who can drop the mitts.

I doubt he has enough left in his legs to still be able to keep up but I’d like to see him recover from the groin strain and still get a shot. We could definitely use that type of player…if he has the legs to keep up.

Yeah I heard that, he might have some sneaky frenchy toughness like a Marc Bergevin.

A nagging groin injury to start the season is not going to make Quasimodo faster.

Needing a "heavyweight" is unimportant if you have team toughness, If you don't have team toughness, your team isn't going anywhere. Adding Lucic would be an alarming indication the team's leaders think the team is soft, which I hope they do not but maybe they do.
