Richardson stepped up

Post by hdhntr148 »

Richardson who was starter all spring summer and half of fall camp played very well in pass and run game Saturday. So why did Eli panic and change everything halfway thru camp? as weakest link on O line is RG spot and with Green coming off a minor prodedure that could limit his ability to handle outside pass rush as LT seems like it would make sense to slide him back to LG where he is all American. Then move dom back to RG.

Just idle speculation but after his performance against one of best d line units and and outstanding DE across from him would seem to make a lot of sense.

Agree 100%.

Green was getting beat by much lower level opponents at LT. He simply doesn’t have the lateral speed needed to be a LT. Richardson is a much better LT than Green, but Green is a superior G. He is a road grader type.

Absolutely, he did awesome. This could pay dividends later this season when Green is healthy, along with Meyer maybe coming on as our kicker after his confidence boost last night.

2 potential areas of major concern last night turned out ok.

There are "major concerns" and then there are Armchair's "look at me" overreactions.

Drink and Pribula heaped praise on Richardson after the game:

“Can’t say enough about Jayven Richardson,” Drinkwitz said. “I was really, really proud of his performance tonight. We had a lot of big runs to his side.”

“Jayven stepping up on short notice ... . I love it,” Pribula said. “He’s a great dude, and I’m so proud of him and what he’s done. ... He didn’t get an opportunity to start so far this year, got his opportunity tonight and made the most of it.”

Drink also said Green could be out 3-5 weeks after undergoing a "minor medical procedure" Friday after being injured Wednesday in practice. Green was at the game last night in a walking boot on his right foot.

There was a time when the Tigers didn't have quality depth or even quality starters on the OLine. This team has beefed up in the trenches over time. And pardon me, but that is HUGE. Drink has done a great job attracting SEC level talent.
