FIRE MARMOL-- Enough of the Coddling: Marmol has presided over one of the worst periods in Cardinal history
This is one of the worst periods in Cards history.
How this man can even be considered a viable option to retain his job is just insane.
The past 3 years should be unacceptable for any respectable team.
He's had 4 years and shown no semblance of improvement.
3 consecutive years of negative run diff.
a horrendous season in 2023.
This year is another disaster.
If we are going to rebuild the rebuild should begin on 9/29/2025 with a good old-fashioned firing.
Anything less is more coddling and less success.
He's anything but a long-term answer.
There, I've said my peace.

There is no manager in baseball who could turn this pile of dog [shirt] into Gold.

marmol still managing gives ownership and bloom a whipping boy.
ownership loves throwing people under busses, so he will get another year or 2.

Yes, a much better option. And a better leader to lead them too. This team needs a field general, not a dad.45s wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 07:31 ambetter players might be an option???Bully4you wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 03:17 am This is one of the worst periods in Cards history.

Marmol too comfortable with losing. A WS trophy and a participation trophy equal value to him. The lack of discipline and fire shows up on the field every week. It’s okay to have young inexperienced players. It’s not okay to tell them winning isn’t a priority and they never suffer consequences of boneheaded play and a create a culture that lacks accountability.

True
Oli absolutely should be fired
Sadly the only person who's opinion matters is BDWJr and it appears he's bringing him back.

The team controlled a W/C spot on July 1 last season and this.
And failed badly down the stretch both times.
It would appear The Marmot himself played a big role in turning the team into a pile of dog dung.
Good leaders "pick up" others.
The Marmot steps on them.
It is all over his shoes.....

Managers are fired for much less…..this adherence of not firing anyone is this org can’t rationalized. What’s the downside??? He’s a no name and no one will care if he’s gone….so no PR repercussions. Go find another no name…..maybe Bloom gets lucky

Is this horse dead yet? Yes, there are a great number of us who have been in the fire Oli camp for several seasons. However, the club just floated press stories indicating he will be back. None of us know what Bloom's opinion of this is and whether he really has sway with ownership. All we have is rampant speculation. Oli's salary is very minimal. Reassigning him for a year means almost nothing to the budget of the team. Getting a good experienced manager will cost a few million. We shall see what happens.
They hired Shildt to clean up fundamentals and he did. Got them into the playoffs and was fired. Oli is mister mediocrity. Of course he lost his bullpen at the deadline, and he doesn't have a ton of talent to work with, but the fundamentals are pathetic. That is the one thing even average teams CAN do well. Throw to the right base, smart baserunning, move runners, hit sac flies, etc... We don't do that well. So Oli lets fundamentals slide and can barely be .500 and is rewarded with an extension. At least MO is gone....

If Bloom intends to dump and rebuild he will keep Marmol and then hire his guy when the team appears ready to recover.

Exactly. He's already a sunk cost. Might as well try to get their money's worth. That's the FO's thinking, not mine. I'd have fired his *ss after Game 1 against the Phils in 22 as it's been all downhill since then. But, the players seem to like his country club "Don't pressure yourself too hard to win" attitude, so I'd be surprised if he were gone before his contract's up. Especially after the interview yesterday with The Cat in which he stated Oli and Herrera discussed what Ivan needs to do report to ST as a catcher. Sure sounded like Oli'd be back.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 10:51 am If Bloom intends to dump and rebuild he will keep Marmol and then hire his guy when the team appears ready to recover.

He has taken a bad situation and made it worse. Makes moves nightly that are head scratchers. Nothing personal. I know a lot that would be just as bad. He needs gone before next weekend.

The fact that we carry 3 catchers on the 26 man roster and only 1 can catch is an example of what being wedded to analytics and not enough veteran baseball men on the ground in the system. The first people to notice Hererra can't catch were the fans.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 12:00 pmExactly. He's already a sunk cost. Might as well try to get their money's worth. The problem there is, if the team becomes accustomed to losing, that becomes an incredibly hard mentality to break.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025 10:51 am If Bloom intends to dump and rebuild he will keep Marmol and then hire his guy when the team appears ready to recover.
Look at the Blues. When Jim Montgomery became available Doug Armstrong knew he had to bring in a better coach and voila the entire feeling of the team changed.
Not that Drew Bannister was an awful coach, but the team had already started to slip into the doldrums, they became boring, they were too complacent just waiting for bad things to happen, they weren't doing what was necessary to win.
As we've heard Arenado say the prevailing thought process with Marmol is hoping to win, not expecting to win.
As long as that feeling keeps going, it gets harder and harder to break.

Bannister gave us some bland Blues hockey
Marmol gives us colorless Cardinal baseball
