Cap could almost double over next 10yrs.
Marco D'Amico: "Sources believe the salary cap could almost double over the next 9 years (going from $95M to possibly $170M) - RG (9/12)
https://x.com/NHLRumourReport/status/19 ... 3306530175
Saw this the other day D'Amico had Snuggy Signing a day or so before it happened i for sure see it rising drastically if they stay with the ESPN/TNT model and the game keeps growing.
This is also why small market teams are looking at other avenues of income like streaming services production companies etc..

The league doesn’t make that kind of scratch to sustain that. That’s a baseball number and they play twice as many games. Which will of course eventually lead to another lockout.Unfathomable wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 14:13 pm Marco D'Amico: "Sources believe the salary cap could almost double over the next 9 years (going from $95M to possibly $170M) - RG (9/12)

So New York will still get the McDavids, and instead of getting the Kyrous, St Louis will now get the guys still playing in their late 30s.

Roughly 6.5 % compounded growth rate.Unfathomable wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 14:13 pm Marco D'Amico: "Sources believe the salary cap could almost double over the next 9 years (going from $95M to possibly $170M) - RG (9/12)

Medicine, education, construction and many more industries will more than likely exceed that rate.

This ownership group has consistently spent to the cap. People predicting doom and gloom have little to no basis for negative forecasts regarding this ownership group's commitment to building a team that has the financial backing to compete with any team in the league.

I have a hard time seeing it. If the average ticket price is currently 83 here, then if we are looking at a doubling how many people will be able to afford an average ticket price of 166 dollars?
I just don't see it.

I don't think ticket price increase is going to be only thing that helps add revenue. Broadcasting $$$ is probably going to account for a substantial chunk of revenue increase going to each team.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 15:58 pm I have a hard time seeing it. Will it though? Less and less of the younger generation are watching sports. They just aren't that interested in them.b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 16:00 pmI don't think ticket price increase is going to be only thing that helps add revenue. The cost of going to games has priced out many families so there aren't as many fathers passing the passion onto their sons/daughters like there previously was.
Too many other distractions in everyone lives now.
I'm not saying it won't happen, but man trying to fill up a stadium 42 times a year with an average ticket price close to 200 a seat is going to be tough in a mid market.

The league is growing pretty steadily post ESPN/TNT TV Deal it isn't on par with the other big 3 yet but it's growing pretty fast i would say. The next expansion team they are wanting 2 Billion dollars guys. Vegas paid 500 million!!!TheJackBurton wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 16:04 pmWill it though? I do think for the time being they will be exhausting new avenues to keep ticket prices down you have a few teams leaning into the production side of things and streaming.. Content creation as a whole can be a pretty big cash stream for a pro sports team if done properly..
Pretty sure we also won an award for an App we created this year as well?
I guess what i'm trying to say is i think the model is shifting and ticket sales may not be the biggest revenue stream for teams in the not to distant future or at least teams won't be AS dependent on them...

But even streaming is taking hits. The cost of streaming platforms is increasing every year, so people are just going to start cancelling those.Unfathomable wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 16:41 pmThe league is growing pretty steadily post ESPN/TNT TV Deal it isn't on par with the other big 3 yet but it's growing pretty fast i would say. I can honestly say I'm not sure I'd put another 20 dollars a month to watch hockey on a service that if my internet goes out I can't watch anything.
I mean all in all I guess we'll see, but the arenas aren't free, they have to get butts in the seats and giving people more and more reasons to not go to games including cost of games isn't going to help.

Right but take victory+ as an example Dallas put that out Ana already uses it full time and its free to the customer and supported completely by the ad revenue made from people watching the games..TheJackBurton wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 16:57 pmBut even streaming is taking hits. That's what i'm saying the way technology is changing new avenues of revenue are possible if creative.

Just pay attention to the TV contracts, both national and local. It should be obvious to everyone that our commercial networks are going to more and more sport content. ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, TNT, TBS are all cutting back on TV productions because of the cost of actors.
I find college volleyball on during the week. College football is expanding. MLB, NFL, NHL has expanded coverage. You can find pro or college sports on just about every night. This costs money and expanded contracts to show these programs are coming. Just watch the new expanded contracts. If there is an explosion there, caps will explode.

You must not understand how revenue and the cap are related. The cap only goes up when revenue goes up. They’re tied to the hip. The cap being projected to double means that they’re projecting revenue to double.netboy65 wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 14:45 pmThe league doesn’t make that kind of scratch to sustain that. And owners and players split revenue 50/50. Like to the dollar. Let’s say all of the players salaries add up to 52% of revenue at the end of the year. They would then give back 2% to the owners. Conversely, if they all add up to 48%, then they’d all get an extra 2% once the calculations are done at the end of the year.
This is why the CBA extension that just happened was so easy and there wasn’t much bickering at all. Both sides are pretty darn happy these days.
As long as revenue continues to increase, players will continue to get their cut (50%) and thus their salaries will continue to increase as well.

Projecting and actually are two different things. We’ll see.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 17:41 pmYou must not understand how revenue and the cap are related. I think the point is that expecting revenue to actually double over the next 10 years seems like a stretch.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑17 Sep 2025 17:41 pmYou must not understand how revenue and the cap are related.
