What's known of Ruth's numbers barnstorming against black teams were that they were even better than his ML numbers. Wonder what kind of success the great "diversity" pitchers of the time would have had with a steady diet of Ruth, Gehrig, Cobb, Foxx, Hornsby, Speaker and the such.

Bleacher Reports rated Walter Johnson's fastball as the best of all time, Lefty Grove's at #4.

Ohtani would’ve dominated that level of competition even way more than he is now. He’d have set records that could never be surpassed with the evolution of the modern athlete over the last 90 years.

He’s a great player but he would not be the athlete is today if he grew up back then he certainly wouldn’t be lifting weights running on treadmills know anything about nutrition or work out programs he would be a completely different player that’s why it’s stupid to compare players today to those back then and say they would be great back then they wouldn’t be the same players. Ruth played against every one and hit well but who knows if he would be as good in the modern age having to face 3 or 4 high octane throwing pitchers

I was agreeing with a response to the poster that said of Ruth’s numbers, “Compare them to Ohtani”. That was the parameter set in the comment.

You are definitely correct in that Ohtani would not have been as advanced or physically matured.

I also agree the generational comparisons are typically useless. Sometimes if I’m bored enough or need a break at work, I’ll engage in the nonsense.

Since you mentioned it, it would actually be more interesting to see how Babe Ruth’s skillset would’ve translated to the modern game. I suspect he’d be held to higher standards on fitness and overall lifestyle, to say the least.
