My wife and I have been fans of this series, although we were late-comers to it and had to catch up; we saw the Finale today.
I know that for many of you, this series, and its 2 predecessor movies have turned rather schmaltzy at times, and this one was no exception. However, unlike many long-running episodic serials prevalent on today's market, the series wasn't intended to shock the audiences with unexpected plot twists and turns, and sex, blood, and gore galore.
It treats the setting - the Abbey estates, neighborhood, and the "Upstairs - Downstairs" culture, from about the turn of the 20th Century throughs this last movie (1930ish), with style, love, and even the respect that this outstanding cast it deserves - warts and all. This last episode is no different in that regard, and I would probably rate it the best of the 3 concluding films.
Granted, it's not for everybody (what movie is?), but if you've ever been a fan of the series, or curious about the series and the passing culture that it represents, the Finale is a fitting tribute . Watch it. it will keep your interest. I'd rate it an 8 out of 10 for you film buffs.
