Will the Braves go into Rebuild mode? Sell off? Do they have any talent we could trade for?

Post by Carp4Cy »

19 games back. 15 games under. Any chance they will put big names on the trading block over the winter? And who is primed for a bounceback year?

Olson, Riley, Sale, Profar? Even Ozuna could make sense for a 1 year deal if we just needed a RH bat. Probably not Acuna or Harris II, but those could be franchise changers if the Braves would deal. Any other pitchers maybe? Or Brian Snitker?

Lots of plus and potential AS talent here that our org doesn't have.

I dont think they go into rebuild mode I am sure they are thinking this was a down year and will rebound next season. As for trading players the cardinals are rebuilding so they cant afford to be trading guys like JJ and Doyle for them which is what they would want except for Ozuna he would probably only cost one of the Jesus or Joshua Baez but I wouldnt want to trade them either the cardinals need a lot more than one trade or two is going to fix

It’s interesting to me that a “desirable” growing metropolis like Atlanta with a brand new ballpark with its own surrounding entertainment district isn’t competitive this year.

I don’t follow the Braves and don’t know anyone who does, so I can’t offer any reasons. Could it be that Freddie Freeman meant more to the team than they thought? Injuries?

I live in Tennessee and most of my friends are Braves fans. They were all pretty shocked by their start (0-8) and the way the season has played out. They were a trendy World Series pick by some (experts & fans). From talking with most of them, they blame health, and especially their starting pitchers. So many guys got hurt. I think they will mostly run it back next season and hope for much better health.

The team had a bad season. I think injuries.

The Freeman thing could be like the Betts situation for Boston. No matter what Boston has done since, it's all basically trying to make up for the one mistake of not being able to lock him up.

In the case of these "young core" teams, it seems there is usually exactly one player that you have to nail down. If you pick the right player to nail down, you can allow things to change and turn over naturally around that player. For the Braves, Freeman sure seemed like the guy. And if Boston kept Betts, they could have let Devers and Bogaerts go without blinking an eye.

Still, their manager seems fairly likely to get fired, depending on who you listen to. I’d take him.

I would think that player movement would not be a surprise for Atlanta.

I don't see position players in their 30"s as a target for the
Cardinals. That eliminates all but Riley on the list of possible movers
on your list. Ozuna also has 10/5. Acuna can't stay healthy, Harris doesn't
get OBP.

Just don't see a match currently unless they want Gray for a reload then
there might be something.

No they are not going to rebuild

All their young players under contract, all of them

They might be interested in Sonny Gray

I think they are "buyers" in the off season.

1.They need a SS & picked up Kim recently. FA SS list is not encouraging.

2. They also want to get a full season from Acuna who missed early months of this season.

3. Injuries, especially Pitching - get players back and see what is available in off season.

Would suspect next season they are right back in the mix for NL East title.

Fair assessment.

Meanwhile, If the Cubs ever decide to take a year and reload, and MIL has some bad injury luck, and JJW bursts onto the scene with ROY performance (plus some decent Bloom moves happen that make us better in 2026, 2027, 2028, 2029 and onwards), the Cards could be right back in the mix for a NLC title.

No to Ozuna. They made one screwball trade for that idiot and he didn't do much for the Cardinals except support the strip clubs in East St. Louis with Carlos Martinez.

Oh I’m against that also. Any trades should be guys like Donovan Gorman and burly for young pitchers and outfielders

Yep, if the Cubs inexplicably decide to blow up their team for some reason and the Brewers suffer some massive injuries and everything goes right for the Cards, we're back in this division baby!

Braves won't do a tank and rebuild. Their TV deal is $81 million and the Battery brought in another $25 million. Injuries have been part of their problem.

Wouldn’t do this now as he’s about to have hip surgery for a torn labrum, but we could’ve traded for Sean Murphy.

Owed about the same money as Sonny Gray but stretched out longer. Braves need more starters next year. Would allow us to trade our catching prospects to fill other holes. Murphys offensive has fallen off a bit but would’ve given us a great defensive back stop to stabilize the defense/pitching (pre-hip surgery).

Oh well now.
