.............. Burleson goes on the IL.
Some on here seem to think Burleson is an important cog moving forward, but when the Cards had their decent April and May start, Burly wasn't yet an everyday starter, and now seeing the Cards go 7-3 since he's been on the IL, maybe some can see he could be a key piece to trade this off season with his decent current value.
Church hasn't had a great start in his first MLB opportunity, but he made a plus catch in yesterday's game that was key in maintaining the lead late. A plus catch doesn't catch everyone's attention or the box scores, but it can sure help win games regardless. Church is also scoring runs at a good rate, and his overall game has enough plusses I'd guess he'd outproduce Burly in bWAR over the longer sample size.
The Brewers are showing a way a lower budget type team can compete. Speed and defense are among them, and those are more affordable assets in todays market than power, and plus defense can help your pitchers perform better.
Also, Gorman at 1B looks decent, and if you prorate per AB NG's offensive production to AB's this year, Gorman's is a little better.
IF Burleson was traded, and Church got his playing time, I don't think you'd lose a thing as far as winning games, an instead gain whatever AB returns in a trade. The Cards also have the potential of Joshua Baez and maybe even Chase Davis making a case to get a MLB look before long.
And yes, I'd currently prefer an OF that has both VS2 and Church in it at the same time vs. having a clogger out there.

I’m with you 100% and you stated the case logically and presented relevant precedent with the Brewer model.
…but you’re still going to catch hell because the many around here who suffer from Burly fever cannot be cured.
