Anyone Surprised At No Coaching Changes?

Post by Red7 »

Nothing against the guys who are/were there, but you’d think Monty has someone from his times in Dallas or Boston he’d like to bring in. Almost every coach does.

think being around a good chunk of this staff a few years back does enough to give them a chance to run it back.

might see some changes next season as needed.

Agree he must be more than satisfied with his staff.

May be a reflection on the recent flip-flop of head coach as well as the coming GM switch.

Honestly, yes, a little surprised. As the OP says, almost every coach tends to bring in their guys eventually. I’d guess Monty is simply satisfied with his assistants and doesn’t see the need for any changes. Obviously he would’ve been familiar with Ott from his time here previously but the others were new.

It’s a little surprising but also a good sign the group seems to be working well together, in the right roles etc. Honestly, I have no issues with any of the assistants so I’m good with where they’re at as a group.

Yes. Was surprised Claude Julien was retained. Nothing wrong with him. Just thought he was a mentor for Bannister.

I’d imagine that responsibility would fall more under the head coach. Monty said it’d be fixed. Has it been? We’ll have to wait and see a few months of data to truly know. But I trust he’s been working on it this summer for sure.

I've been working alot lately but i remember seeing these two tweets a week or so ago. I'm 99.9 percent sure this is real from my basic research of the blues site etc but there has been no official press announcement to my knowledge which is kind of strange.

NEWS: The St. Louis Blues have named David Alexander as Director of Goaltending, Elliott Mondou as a Video Coach, Brian Elliott as Goalie Development Coach, and Ben Dalpe as a Pro Scout and Development Coordinator.

the Blues have hired Ryan Stacey as an Assistant Video Coach and Jack Caruso as Hockey Video Analyst and Goaltending Scout.

In addition, the Blues have parted ways with Skills Coach Michael Babcock and Goalie Development Coach Dan Stewart.

I had Grok confirm it as well it said the news is real and there has been no press release so FWIW!

Is that Michael Babcock the same as the former Red Wings coach Michael Babcock? If so, good riddance.

Good find.

Michael Babcock’s name doesn’t appear on the Front Office section of the Blues website anymore and some of the other guys appear to have gotten title changes/promotions.

The coaching staff seems to be a decently competent coaching staff. One of the things that I noticed last year was that when there was a trend of something not working like the PP, it would change. Monty also said he gave both the Otter and Weber (I believe they are the 2 running both units) the task of how you would find the holes in the others system. He said it was a healthy exercise and they got a lot out of it. To me that's all that matters. If the players are listening to you, then you just need to be willing to accept fault at times and open to change. The assistant coaches seem to be cut from that cloth, so there's no real reason to change. Also have really good pedigree having 2 HC caliber coaches on the bench and 1 in Otter who a lot of teams see as a HC eventually.
