NHL.com ranks the goalie tandems.
https://www.nhl.com/news/super-16-best- ... oalie-week
11. St. Louis Blues
Total points: 88
"The numbers weren't always there last season, but there is no denying the quality of this tandem (I ranked them No. 9 in my personal Super 16), which was middle-third statistically in 2024-25. Jordan Binnington is a big-game goalie (see the 4 Nations Face-Off performance with Canada or the 2019 run to the Stanley Cup) who is hard to beat when he is on. When he's not, Joel Hofer is there to pick up the slack. The 25-year-old played 31 games last season, his second straight with at least 30, and went a career-best 16-8-3 with a .904 save percentage. That's not a bad security blanket at all for the Blues." -- Shawn P. Roarke, senior director of editorial
Not saying they are the best by any stretch but putting them behind Jets, Stars, Rangers, Caps, Devils, Leafs, Lightning, Avalanche, Panthers and Canucks? Come on man! Blues tandem is arguably top 5 to me.

I think the first sentence is telling the story of the ranking, which seems to be numbers based. I see some holes that you mentioned in the rankings. I like our tandem, especially the mentality which cannot be measured. as I like to say - "My insanity keeps me sane".rangergiff wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 09:11 am https://www.nhl.com/news/super-16-best- ... oalie-week

Hard to think Colorado and especially NJD (Jacob Markstrom and Jake Allen!) have better duos than Blues.
Curious about the methodology and whether puck-handling had any influence on the rankings.

I believe JB is on a resurgence and Hofer is getting better by the year.
Once in the play offs......I'll be happy to stand pat.

As I.J. suggested, these may be based on the numbers. I'm not trying to be a homer but I think I would take Bennie/Hofer at 4. Not sure how the Panthers drop to 10th either. It almost seems like two tiers to me.
Top tier:
Jets, Stars, Panthers, Blues, Rangers, Lightning
Tier 2:
Caps, Leafs, Devils,
Don't think I would put the Cauncks or Avalanche on this list.

the problem with these rankings is, it's heavily (or seems to be) weighted on the starting goalie, and not the tandem per se. see your top tier as an examplerangergiff wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 09:45 am As I.J. suggested, these may be based on the numbers. Just what I was going to say. Going by the numbers alone if you have a stud #1 the backup could be me and we’d still be ranked high. That’s not the spirit of the exercisemoose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 09:48 amthe problem with these rankings is, it's heavily (or seems to be) weighted on the starting goalie, and not the tandem per se. see your top tier as an examplerangergiff wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 09:45 am As I.J. suggested, these may be based on the numbers. I have trouble seeing the Leafs, Avs, and Devils ranked that highly. Maybe the Devils if Markstrom can return to form. He's certainly been good in the past.

Re: NHL.com ranks the goalie tandems.
The votes are pretty wild if you look at the bottom. Two people had Toronto ranked at #2. In what world...
Re: NHL.com ranks the goalie tandems.
I read the article and it is chock full of lapses of logic ...
If they are ranking "tandems" why are the Jets in there? Hellebyuck played 64 last year.
Tandems should be 65 / 35 split ... 60 / 40 etc. The Jets, Stars, Rangers, TB, Florida and Sens are heavy on one guy. Those aren't tandems. They are a #1 and a backup.

I agree. If Hofer shows improvement over last season, the Blues are sitting in a really good place especially if Ellis can post another .920 plus save percentage in the AHL. (.933 in 3 playoff games to end the season) Nice problem for sure.

Ding ding ding!!! Buffalo in the 90's would have been rated as the number #1 goalie tandem and New Jersey in the late 90's early 00's...bud white wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 13:49 pm I read the article and it is chock full of lapses of logic ...

Nowhere in the forum discussion above do I see the word Edmonton. You have to believe that is something McDavid is thinking about as he weighs his future options.

Why in the world do you want any kind of goalie "controversy"?b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 14:44 pm

Of course the Blues want the 2 players pushing each other of course the Blues want great goalies everywhere here and Springfield but they don't need a controversy over who is number 1.
I'm assuming you would agree with that?
