Labor Day 50 years ago today, September 1, 1975, my sister Tina Brangle and I attended "Bob Gibson Day" at Busch Stadium, for the Cardinals-Cubs game. There was an hour-long ceremony before the game with 48,435 fans in attendance, which the Cardinals organization gave Gibson a number of gifts. Owner August Busch Jr. gave Gibson a $33,000 Wimnebago.
The Cardinals beat the Cubs 6-3. Gibson had a difficult time speaking, he was so move with emotion and gratefulness for the fans and the organization.

Re: 50 years ago
Wow Red, thanks for posting this. I too was there with MY sister, (Bernadette), and still remember sitting in the upper deck in dead center field. I had seen many of Gibson's achievements and wasn't gonna miss his day. I had forgotten who we played or whether we won, but beating the Cubs always puts icing on the cake. Bleep, I've gotten old...OldRed wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 18:05 pm Labor Day 50 years ago today, September 1, 1975, my sister Tina Brangle and I attended "Bob Gibson Day" at Busch Stadium, for the Cardinals-Cubs game.
