What is it with Gorman

Post by imadangman »

Every time he has a hot couple games everyone comes out to say how we just can't get rid of him, he's on the edge.

What is it now? Today 0-4 with 3 K's puts him down to a .214 avg .709 ops. Yes I see the walk rate. I find myself saying (especially when I wear my Gorman apologist hat) that every player not named Albert Pujols is going to get their numbers in streaks.

Let's just take the pulse today, is Gorman still irreplaceable? He very well could be around next year to show us another year, since we are going to need to fill out a roster.

I just don't see how, outside of a potential career year, most of his seasons don't end up around a similar .210-.230 BA with 20-25 homers, 30 on the high side. Injury prone and inconsistent power. Where have we seen that before?

Would love to be proven wrong. Of course at 2nd base his power provides some value, and he for sure plays a better 2nd base than he does 3rd base.

And really. There are about 6 times this season that the forum pulse has seem to alternated between Gorman and Walker. Which one is starting to "get it" and which one looks "lost."

Your guess is good as mine

Don't quote me on that. Just a few days ago we had a thread going about his walk rate, it seemed to be a popular consensus we need to keep him. I'm just on the fence.

If he had a big year here in 2026, you'd have to think about flipping him wouldn't you. Like how they should have flipped O Neill after 2021.

I said when he was in his hot streak when people were saying he figured it out that he has these hot streaks then goes cold for extended periods. The problem is the hot streaks are few and not as long as the cold streaks and he ends up with bad overall numbers. Add in the bad defense and no more excuses for the all he needs is extended playing time and he should be traded

Traded to whom? Is there a team that cannot follow his "progress"?

He is a low batting average hitter who strikes out a lot and hits 20 home runs a year.

That's who he is.

I think the following is how we come to our senses:

2nd base is Wetherholt's to play. Wetherholt will not move off positon for Gorman. That has to be a given that the rest of the decisions are related to. And that takes Gorman off the positon where he provides the most the most value.

Gorman COULD build value next season in a 1B/3B/DH role next year where he is taking a backseat but plays 50-75% of the time.

Agreed. The winning forfula does not include either of these players. Gave them 3 seasons now. Nothing has improved. Time to cut bait before their trade value of “cost control” is gone like Oneil
