Bold moves needed before the season's over

Post by ClassicO »

They shipped out Helsley, Maton, and Matz and released Fedde, and this has provided an opportunity for the young pitchers (O'Brien, McGreevy, Fernandez, et al.) to get valuable experience. It also allows management to get a better idea of whether they should be part of the future. It has been a success. And it helps the league see if any (like Prieto) are worthy of a trade. Why stop there?

They should do the same with Mikolas, Pallante, Hampson, and either Pozo or Pages (neither is part of the future). DFA them and move the heck on now.
Determine who could be part of that future and bring them up (on Sept 1, they must have 28 players on the roster).

I don't care if they replace the trash of Miko and Pallante with Graceffo, Leahy, Mathews, Wilkerson, or Taylor -- but quit allowing faithful fans to watch the horror show.
And get an idea of how JJW fits: can he play shortstop (Winn needs the rest and Donny's injured)? How well can he hit at the MLB level? The "no playing time" excuse is worse than the 40-man excuse. Give him PT over guys like Prieto or Saggese, as it's clear they are not the answer at a full-time position.
The same for Crooks.

I agree with all of the above.
You need to post more.

Classic…..I’m with you on this. We can end the Pages/Pozo stuff today. Let’s get a look at Crooks. We can sit Winn and let him work on getting his knee right. If some offseason cleanup is needed then he can start on that. Give Wetherholt a taste of the big leagues.

If I never see another start from Mikolas or Pallante, that’s fine with me. We need their innings?? I’ll pass on the 5 innings 10 hits 6 runs to see what someone else could do. It’s September and we are going nowhere. Church, Prieto, Wetherholt, Crooks…..let’s see what we have. The McGreevy thing never made any sense to me and not getting a look at some of the others doesn’t make any sense either.

Are you sure all those young guys wouldn’t be a
“horror show “ as well?

And if fans watch….that’s on them

I'm not "sure" about anything but death. If you won't take the risk to replace negative impact players with younger players to at least try to gauge what they can do, you're in the Hades known as "status quo."
But I was adamant they trade the guys they traded, and it's been nice to get a glimpse at what the future holds with the new relief corps.
