Are we the dullest team in baseball?
Haven’t been posting as much lately, a lot going on, but also have lost interest in baseball over the last few weeks.
Anyways.
0 20 HR players
Only 6 players with 10+ HRs
1 player with 10+ SBs
0 SPs with a sub 4.20 ERA
We don’t walk a ton, we don’t strikeout a ton.
We also don’t walk many batters and we don’t strikeout anyone
Every NL Playoff team has multiple 10+ SB players, the Brewers have nearly an entire 9 man lineup with 10+ SBs.
Josh friggin Naylor had more steals with Seattle in his first 12 games than all but 1 Cardinal has this entire season.
There are many ways to show that this franchise is in a sad state.

Re: Are we the dullest team in baseball?
Certainly the dullest team I've watched in a lot of seasons....the crowds remind me of the 70s and those boring teams.
Re: Are we the dullest team in baseball?
Pretty sure this is recency bias. The 2023 team was far duller imo, with worse pitching and not as interesting young players. The amount of runs those pitchers walked (or HBP) in that year was biblically awesome. Far more unwatchable from a pitching perspective, every game was like a Fedde start and the bullpen was also awful.
Re: Are we the dullest team in baseball?
2023 actually had an offense that could hit a little. They had a 101 OPS+ and had 209 HRs.This team is at 97 and 126. Plus Montgomery gave a sub 4 ERA and Matz a sub 4 ERA that year as starters. This team could be one of the only Cardinals (and maybe THE only Cardinals) pitching staffs without a SP with a sub 4 ERA. A couple weeks ago I went back to 1940 or 1950 to see what full season Cardinals teams had a staff without a single SP with a sub 4 ERA and this year would be the only one unless Libby, Gray, or McGreevy go on a run over the last month.3dender wrote: ↑27 Aug 2025 16:07 pm Pretty sure this is recency bias. Without a doubt. This team is worse than watching CSPAN. Ever notice how Mozeliak's managerial hires lack personality? And their team's largely have no life or excitement? Its all tied together.
Re: Are we the dullest team in baseball?
It makes some here mad that I really enjoyed watching Wainwright win 200 that year. I’m actually kind of proud of the fact that I really enjoyed something that we were supposed to hate watching.3dender wrote: ↑27 Aug 2025 16:07 pm Pretty sure this is recency bias. Certainly in the top 4 or 5…
However, the fan base can be very entertaining….

And the results are due to a combination of poor roster construction, poor field level coaching and managing, and poor execution.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑27 Aug 2025 15:54 pm Haven’t been posting as much lately, a lot going on, but also have lost interest in baseball over the last few weeks.

Re: Are we the dullest team in baseball?
He had a 7+ ERA that year, and won less than a quarter of his starts. Win 200 was really cool to see but it was miserable, pathetic and embarrassing watching his other 93 innings.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑27 Aug 2025 16:26 pmIt makes some here mad that I really enjoyed watching Wainwright win 200 that year. Not for the team we're playing. It's exciting to see your team scoring lots of runs and in turn, watching the other team get shut down by your pitcher. But watching your team (Cards) get humiliated most nights is not fun, and yes, they are dull.

Certainly the most predictable which makes us very easy to manage against. We’ve gone from LaRussa who almost always got us favorable EOG/winning time matchups to Marmol who almost never does.

Yes, and I have followed Cardinal for over 70years at 80 years old.
Re: Are we the dullest team in baseball?
You mean, compared to the White Sox and Rockies? The Angels? The Nationals and Pirates? Several others?
It’s endemic in MLB.

Why kick us when we're down?
We're far more insufferable when we're good.
