Herrera would like to return to catching
But should he, considering all the other fine catchers in the organization? Going forward, this is one of the more important positional decisions for Bloom. Also, involving some future possible trade chips considering the abundance of catcher talent. That, and where does he find some top of the rotation type starting pitching? Hopefully, Doyle is one of them.

And, I’d like to date Jennifer Garner. I don’t see either happening…Shady wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 09:45 am But should he, considering all the other fine catchers in the organization? Re: Herrera would like to return to catching
He has mentioned in recent interviews that he still wants to catch, and he still wants to be considered a catcher. He follows that up by stating he will play where he is asked and will do anything to help the team.

Speaking from a defensive aspect, he's probably not one of the top 5 catchers in the organization.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 10:33 amHe has mentioned in recent interviews that he still wants to catch, and he still wants to be considered a catcher. Nooooooooooooooo way in h e l l he's going to be the catcher in 2026 w/Crooks, Bernal etc....... coming fast.
He's either going to learn how to play the OF or be a DH.
And he also better worry about his hitting, which has slipped since he returned on 7/13:
142 PA's
.242 .326 .306 .633

Re: Herrera would like to return to catching
The reason he is DHing and playing LF is that he’s not a very good catcher. If he works his tail off in the offseason and comes to ST 2026 and beats out the other catchers, then he can start at catcher. It’s a fairly simple equation.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 10:37 amSpeaking from a defensive aspect, he's probably not one of the top 5 catchers in the organization.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 10:33 amHe has mentioned in recent interviews that he still wants to catch, and he still wants to be considered a catcher. Then maybe he should work on throwing the ball from home plate to second base. I mean, I'm no coach, but...Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 10:33 amHe has mentioned in recent interviews that he still wants to catch, and he still wants to be considered a catcher. That guy can forget everything being a starting catcher. His defense is terrible back there. Even oli understands this.

Re: Herrera would like to return to catching
He did that all last off season and it failed. He struggles at framing and throwing. He supposedly worked with an arm strength coach last off season and it became worse. He’s done as a C. DH onlyBrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 10:41 amThe reason he is DHing and playing LF is that he’s not a very good catcher. Apparently, Herrera himself does not understand it.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 17:29 pm That guy can forget everything being a starting catcher. His defense is terrible back there. Even oli understands this.
And that is very troublesome as it shows a shocking lack of awareness and great ignorance on his part.
It also very much calls into question his commitment and dedication to learning a new position.
"Me first."
Clearly has been paying attention to Wainwright, Molina, Arenado, Nootbaar, and others.
TOXIC CULTURE.

Is there such a thing as Remedial Defense Catcher school?
I mean, that 7% CS rate is pretty impressive, but maybe it gets bumped all the way to 9%.
Ridiculous...not TOXIC, but absurd on it's face.

His offense must be directly 100% correlated to his defensive position, right?rockondlouie wrote: ↑22 Aug 2025 10:40 am Nooooooooooooooo way in h e l l he's going to be the catcher in 2026 w/Crooks, Bernal etc....... coming fast.
