Training camp usually starts what 3-4 days before the first game, which makes no sense to me but it is what it is

Re: one month to go!
My guess is camp will open on the 17th. At least for on ice stuff. Might technically be the 16th but the first day is usually just picture day, putting the promos together, physicals etc.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 13:13 pm Training camp usually starts what 3-4 days before the first game, which makes no sense to me but it is what it is
These guys come in super in shape these days so first preseason game after just 3-4 days seems fine IMO. Let’s get it going!
Re: one month to go!
I'm going to every single practice/scrimmage/game that is open to the public just to watch Lucic!!

oh I don't doubt that and that isn't my issue. What I'm referring to is it gives the coaches very little on ice time to input their systems or to do any coaching or development before they are getting into games.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 14:28 pmMy guess is camp will open on the 17th. Re: one month to go!
pro athletes have lobbied for shorter training camps and less preseason games because they say they opt to practice on their own (which a lot do) and they would rather get injured in a meaningful game vs an exhibition. TO ME, this only really applies to guys who are fringe roster players. Those guys are at risk of ending their careers with a bad injury. Not having proper training camps hasn't done anything to the on ice/on field product except make more chaos in the early season. These players take too long to ramp up. But in hockeys case, the season probably airs on too long. It's crazy to me that hockey plays the same schedule as basketball, but in it's current popularity, it needs to get to the proper views.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 13:13 pm Training camp usually starts what 3-4 days before the first game, which makes no sense to me but it is what it is

It’s an ongoing process. 3 days of intense practices then why not see how some of the guys are implementing the material? Then adjust accordingly for the next practice to prepare for the next game. Those first couple preseason games will only have 7-8 vets, 7-8 minor leaguers and 2-4 teenagers destined for Jrs anyway.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 14:56 pmoh I don't doubt that and that isn't my issue. I believe when they go to 84 league games with the new CBA they will have two fewer exhibition games.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 18:11 pmpro athletes have lobbied for shorter training camps and less preseason games because they say they opt to practice on their own (which a lot do) and they would rather get injured in a meaningful game vs an exhibition. I’m in a tent near my car and kayak beside Lake Siskiyou in the shadow of Shasta. Crickets, water, stars. Thinking about the upcoming season and can’t wait for it to start. So many prospects getting real close. The Blues have to come in blazing after the way it ended and the need to feel that good feeling again. That feeling was cut off ugly. This is going to be one hell if a season. Let’s go Blues!

Yes, if it was up to pro athletes they would start the season game 1 since they don't get paid for preseason.callitwhatyouwant wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 18:11 pmpro athletes have lobbied for shorter training camps and less preseason games because they say they opt to practice on their own (which a lot do) and they would rather get injured in a meaningful game vs an exhibition. Training camp though is vitally important and they know it.
Let's take for instance the 99 Rams. If they don't have a 4 week training camp to fully implement Mike Martz incredibly complicated offensive scheme and have more of an NHL type of training camp there's no way it gets implemented. Now obviously no NHL scheme is nearly as complicated, but we saw the night and day difference in play between the team pre 4 nations and post 4 nations and that was because Monty had time to implement his system. He had practices and time to see everyone's strengths and weaknesses and to start putting them in areas to succeed.
I'm not saying they need to switch to 4 weeks of practice and 2 pre season games, I'm just saying a week of practice and then get into games wouldn't hurt. It also gives the rookies who very likely won't make the team a few more days on the big squad to get NHL coaching and the coaches a few more days to help set them up for success.

Yeah I get it. I'm just saying a few more days of practice before getting into games wouldn't hurt. It is what it is though and I'll be watching the games along with everyone else.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 20:10 pmIt’s an ongoing process. 3 days of intense practices then why not see how some of the guys are implementing the material?
