Pre-arbitration bonus pool recipients
In the last CBA, each team was required to contribute $1.67M per year to a pre-arbitration bonus pool.
The money is distributed to certain award winners plus the top 100 eligible players based on Joint Wins Above Replacement (“jWAR”) as created and calculated by the MLB and MLBPA.
I was curious about which Cardinals had received pre-arbitration bonus pool money in past years. Found it via google and thought I might as well share it. Searched for "MLB Pre-Arbitration Bonus Pool List".
2022
865,011 Ryan Helsley
712,375 Tommy Edman
2023
453,092 Lars Nootbaar
325,079 Nolan Gorman
2024
459,896 Masyn Winn
424,722 Brendan Donovan
288,414 Ivan Herrera
260,489 Andre Pallante
2025 projected on 11 July... (this could change dramatically based on 2nd half performances)
514,145 Masyn Winn
426,164 Matthew Liberatore
382,686 Victor Scott
365,796 Ivan Herrera
273,015 Alec Burleson

Nice bonus checks
The money in pro sports is truly insane, why I can't see a long lockout/strike after 2026.
Both sides have too much $$$$ to loose.

Re: Pre-arbitration bonus pool recipients
The money is very top heavy and not performance based for young players. Donovan the past three years averaged about 2.8 bWAR with average salary around $740k. I am sure that a lockout would not fix that.rockondlouie wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:29 am Nice bonus checks

Did they qualify just on WAR? Helsley in 2022 but not 2024? Noot? Gorman?cardstatman wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 17:56 pm In the last CBA, each team was required to contribute $1.67M per year to a pre-arbitration bonus pool.

And Donny makes $2.85M this year, looking at a huge jump to the $7+M range in ARB 2.
The last three years he's averaged $1.43M in salary.

Yes, based on jWAR.Jatalk wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:45 amDid they qualify just on WAR? Helsley in 2022 but not 2024? Noot? Gorman?cardstatman wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 17:56 pm In the last CBA, each team was required to contribute $1.67M per year to a pre-arbitration bonus pool.

Once they reach arbitration, they are no longer eligible.
First certain award winners get something and then the best 100 pre-arbitration players (excluding the award winners) get something. The higher your jWAR, the higher your bonus. So you can get the bonus for your first 3 years in MILB if you are one of the best 100 pre-arb guys. Super 2's get arbitration so they are not eligible.
So as a team... with 100/3 = 3.3 per team
if your minor leagues are producing a lot of talent, you should have 4 or more players getting awards.
if your minor leagues are not producing much talent, you will have 3 or less players getting awards.

My bad fish', when you said "past three years" I just assumed you meant 2023-2025.Catfish4U wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 16:20 pmThe site I looked at stated he made $757k last year and lessor amounts in 2023 and 2022?rockondlouie wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 11:14 amWell fish' even rookies in 2025 make $760,000!Catfish4U wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:43 amThe money is very top heavy and not performance based for young players.
